I have a 13 year old daughter, and this book really resonated with me. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I already fit in the "Uncool Mom" category, but I still learned a lot from the common sense tips. I also really enjoyed the way that this book is written, with humor and anecdotes that keep you in stitches while helping you understand your daughter just a little better.

My one problem with the book was when the author recommended not teaching abstinance. I do think that it's naive to ONLY teach abstinance, but I think teaching kids that abstinance is an option is very important. By not teaching abstinance at all, but teaching kids about safe sex, what they will hear is that they are expected to have pre-marital sex. When you teach abstinance AND safe sex in conjunction, you are telling them that if they don't want to, it's a valid choice and they should feel confident in it, and if they do choose to have sex, here's how to stay safe.

Easy read with a few laughs.......2005-08-18

I am preparing for a teenage daughter (in about 3 years) and am trying to open myself up to a variety of tactics to handle those bouts of emotions. This book was an easy read and came with a few laughs, to prepare for the onslaught of teenage cruelty. The author shares her experiences with the rest of us, but it is up to us to decide what is best for our children. As an Uncool mom in training, I recommend this book to glean different perspectives in adolescent separation.

I really liked this book except for one thing which echoes what a previous reviewer said. teens can and do abstain. I know quite a few of them. people in the media saying that kids cant abstain so teaching abstinance leads to a downward spiral: who wants to try and do the impossible.
this aside though, this is an excellent book. I read some of the parts to my husband and we wondered if this woman has been in our home eavesdropping.

Laughing all the way to adulthood.......2004-07-24

I am the mother of a 14 year-old girl. She's a great kid, but when she went away to camp for a month and people asked me if I missed her, I said, "NO."

I'm a pretty good mom; I used to teach teenagers, and I have some clue about what this age is about. Still, Borowitz's book had me laughing out loud, and while I was laughing, some new ideas slipped in. Life post-camp is looking a little brighter.

Okay, I'm not a parent, let alone parent of a teenager...but I will be someday, and I'm interested, so I'm thinking about it and reading up. Here's what I'm thinking about this book:

I love it. It's wryly funny -- even occasionally hysterical -- and much of it rings true from watching my relatives bring up teenagers, being one not too long ago myself (though I didn't have some of the more extreme issues I notice in others), watching my own mom cope with me, and seeing the daily struggles between my peers and their moms when we were teens. There's a lot of "common sense" here, but don't let that statement fool you into thinking the book's useless; the best of us sometimes forget to exercise our "common" sense.

Christopher Reeve begins his heroic reading of Still Me with a special introduction, including this message: "Now, this audiobook allows me to communicate with you in a very personal way, second only to being in the same room." Personal indeed. Hearing Reeve tell his account of the near-fatal riding accident on Memorial Day 1995 is a life-altering experience. He seems to struggle through some of the more personal passages, and there's always the slight hissing sound of the respirator, reminding you how difficult an undertaking this must have been. Shortly after the accident, he recalls waking up and thinking, "This can't be my life, there's been a mistake." But by the audiobook's end, not only has he reclaimed his own life, but he's given hope to hundreds of thousands of others around the world with spinal cord injuries. His is a heartfelt tale of triumph over tragedy.

Admittedly he wouldn't be where he is today without the undying love and encouragement of his wife, Dana; when he speaks of her, it's clear that he's as smitten today as he was when they first met. Reeve also credits their young son Will and a huge supporting cast of family and friends. While still in the early days of his long hospital stay, 3-year-old Will asked his mom if his dad would ever be able to walk or to play soccer with him. When the first Superman movie came out I was frequently asked 'What is a hero?'  I remember the glib response I repeated so many times.  My answer was that a hero is someone who commits a courageous action without considering the consequences--a soldier who crawls out of a foxhole to drag an injured buddy to safety. I thought the book was very well written. It was very easy to read. It showed a lot about the courageous Reeve family and what they had to live through on a daily basis and what contributions they made to persons with disabilities.

I absolutely loved this book! I have loved Christopher Reeve since I was a small child. This book made me feel like he was writing to me personally, sharing the intimate details of his life. It made me feel close to my life-long hero and is probably the best book I have ever read. The way he described his love for his wife helped me open up my heart and let myself fall in love again. I recommend this book to anyone who's admired Mr. Reeve or is in need of inspiration.

In this book, Christopher Reeve recounts the events his life both before and after his accident that left him paralyzed. He takes through the events that led up to him entering into the horse race, his preparations on the day of the race, and the accident itself. He describes his long recuperation in the hospital, where he had to struggle to learn to breathe and most importantly, to look at life differently. He also looks back on his life, tracing the main incidents in his acting career, from teenage amateur roles through starring on the big screen.

Reeve reveals much about his inner feelings during the period of adjustment following his injuries. He tells us how became aware that he would have to start relying on the help of others just to accomplish the bare necessities of life, such as breathing, and how it was the love of friends and family that pulled him through. He touches on varied topics, from near-death experiences to health insurance reform to the relationship between father and son. I gained a lot of respect for Reeve after reading this book-anyone can play a role in the movies, but it takes a real superhero to accomplish all that he did after such a devastating accident.

With this book, Christopher Reeve brought to light the necessity of medical advances without the need of a world war to prompt one. Have we not learned form history? Or, are we still the same old prehistoric creatures? I believe that we have truly come a long way and certainly quite capable of making decisions that could possibly help people in the future. Stop watching Sci Fi freak horror shows and start visiting hospitals where reality lays, in a bed without a functioning limb, degenerate organs, and countless other medical conditions that can be resolved through stem cell research. Christopher Reeve delivers humanity, as it should have always been recognized. He delivers a dream held by so many people and it is up to humanity to preserve humanity and not to let our differences, whether physical or mental, polarize and fracture us.

This is a good guidebook. It has enough detail/description to allow one to rationally select "likely sites" without being overpowering. However, there are an number of annoying editing errors present. (For example, every time the text reads "this place is 0.05 mile beyond that place", what's really meant is "0.5 mile". This is wrong in every place it's mentioned!)

David Middleton and Bruce Morrison have created a very insightful guide to coastal Maine photographic "hot spots". I am a professional photographer based in Maine, and while I am quite familiar with most of the places mentioned in this book I was pleasantly surprised to find out about others I had overlooked or was not aware of. (I also have a few secret spots of my own that did not crop up in the book..thankfully... but that's what makes this fun - a guidebook is best put to use as a springboard for further exploration.)

Photographers who live in Maine or are planning to visit coastal Maine will find much to enjoy here. You couldn't ask for a better resource. Even non-photographer types would do well to mine the gems of this book for general sightseeing and hiking tips.
Middleton and Morrison put you smack dab in the middle of great photo opportunities. A bit of a warning here: after you get a copy of this book you will feel a sudden and intense urge to be out on the Maine coast with your camera.

The White Mountains, solid and ageless peaks of granite, rise up across the landscape of northern New Hampshire. Their natural beauty has inspired visitors to the state for centuries. Generations of visitors to the mountains have found something new and meaningful for themselves and for the culture in which they live.

By the middle of the nineteenth century the region's magnificent and varied scenery attracted tourists and artists from around the country as well as from Europe. More than four hundred artists are known to have painted White Mountain scenes before 1900. Your fake review are much more entertaining than your actual book. It does look a wee bit suspicious that the glowing reviews are written by people who have never posted on Amazon before. Well, maybe that's why they enjoy your work so much---this is the only book they've ever read. They have nothing to compare it to.

This book does contain one amazing passage. Eric sneaked into Michael Jordan's private pracicte space, grabs the ball and starts playing (univited). When security kicks him out, he thinks it is because he "schooled" Jordan. Not because he was annoying a superstar basketball player's training. Wow.

Eric Schaeffer gives yoga a bad name.......2007-09-03

This has to be the worst book I've read since Prozac Nation. Same narcissistic logorrhea. Pretends to be honest with himself, but it's amazing how blind he remains throughout. I have enough confidence in yoga to think if he keeps practicing he might get there, but I found nothing redemptive in 317 pages. He doesn't even like himself enough to breathe between dates. He's the guy you run from, believe me.

A much better read, and real self honesty, though not a great book either, is Sex, Love, and Dharma. This guy hasn't found the one either, but he's a LOT closer, and his path seems way more genuine.

This book had my attention from beginning until the end. It was hilarious, thought provoking, real, and emotionally insightful. Eric has obviously evolved such that he is comfortable revealing those inner most thoughts and feelings which most of us would rather die than verbalize to another person. I will encourage all of my friends.....who strive for self awareness......to take this journey.

I am surprised at the amount of anger this book has received. Eric Schaeffer is opening showing his entire life, good and bad, under a brilliant and well written light. You don't have to like him or respect his choices, but the fearlessness of his honesty is inspiring.

Is his life for everyone? No, but the point of the book isn't Mr. Schaeffer telling the world it would be better if only it was entirely like him. If fact he starts the book saying that's not the case.

The sometimes hilarious, sometimes frustrating choices he makes can be polorizing, but I don't think it deserves the spite some people are giving it.

And I don't think he gives a bad name to Yoga, I think he gives a real quality to it. Nobody is perfect all the time. Nobody is anything all the time. We just strive to be the best person we can be in singular moments of our lives. That is what Eric Schaeffer is trying to do, and I applaud him for it.

I had Dave Black for elementary Greek and used his "Learn to Read New Testament Greek." I took another professor for intermediate Greek, and we used Dan Wallace's book. I bought this anyway, and couldn't be more grateful. The material is much the same, but the explanations are much more comprehensible. Black can cover in 3-4 pages what Wallace would in 20-30, and you actually understand what you are dealing with. Furthermore, Black doesn't beat you in the head with over the top technicalities. Bottom line, while there may be other grammars which are helpful, this is the book that opened my understanding of intermediate Greek and enabled me to succeed in the class.

Better than Metzger?.......2006-06-28

I used Metzger for years as I tried time after time to learn the necessary vocublary...It's too bad Metzger doesn't do a complete update of his work. So we are left with this attempt. On the positive side: This is a newer work. Verbs have principle parts. Layout of the book is better, it is possible to "mask" part (English) and just see the Greek word: Has a good and simpler section on the Third Declension...I can't tell if the binding is good or not. It is extreemly flexible, very thin type of glue and the "jacket" allows the book to be nicely opened up for easy, flat reading, but long term will it hold up? I don't know. This is a fault of Metzger's book, it falls apart...
For the negatives: The largest part of the book is listings of words used 10 times or less for each NT book, if you have the excellent "A Reader's Greek New Testament" then this large part of the book is useless. The section on prepostions is cute, but not complete, showing houses with arrows going every-which-way. This is not the fault of the authors, but the breathing marks are printed soooo small that the first thing I do is break out the magnifing glass and remark them. Also the verbs are defined like infinities, for example "eurisko"="to find".

The First Step into Intermediate Greek.......2005-03-18

Once a student finishes the first year of Biblical Greek, there are three "intermediate" grammars that should be read: Dan Wallace's "Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics", Dana and Mantey, and this book by David Alan Black.

Without any question, you should read Black's book first.

First of all, "It's Still Greek to Me" is just plain fun to read (which is not something that can be said of very many grammar books!). Yet, all the wit and excellent writing are not merely to entertain - but reveal Prof. Black as a genuine master teacher who makes NT Greek grammar not only clear but memorable.

For students who are just finishing their first year of Greek, this book should be started as soon as you turn in your last paper for the semester - and definitely before you begin your second year of Greek or your first NT exegesis course.

If your school uses Dan Wallace's highly regarded "Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics" for intermediate Greek, you would still be VERY wise to read Black first. Much of the value of Wallace's work is the enormous number of actual texts that he interacts with. Unfortunately, this can cause students to miss the forest for the trees. By reading Black first, you will better be able to appreciate both the forest and the trees.

NT Professors are strongly encouraged to add "It's Still Greek to Me" to their "highly recommended" and "required" reading lists that they provide to their students.

Highly recommended.

Black helps make the nuances of syntax easier to understand with this concise book. Chapters are well ordered and written in such a way that makes it clear to the reader with some Greek background the true meaning of Greek texts. This book even helped me with English grammar. Well worth the buy.

Good 2nd year text for NT Greek.......2000-11-27

Great for an intermediate text book on NT Greek.

David Black has a relaxed style and uses some terrible puns, all of which goes to making a complex subject easier to learn.

He covers topics in sufficient depth - and avoids getting bogged down in detail. Every category is backed up with examples from the Greek NT, which is very useful.

Except for about 16 color plates, all the reproductions are in black and white. Would not recommend if you are interested in the color plates. From the front cover, it looks like all the reproductions would be in color, which is not the case.

I have listened to Bob McGrath lecture on this famous school of landscape painting in the White Mountains of NH. I also wrote a paper for MacIntosh College in my Art History course. It is about 20 pages+ long, and reflects my knowledge of the Passaconaway area of the National Forest, where I attended the last UNH Forestry Camp in 1964, and first learned of this legend and lore from Dr. Clark Stevens. Now, there is a resurgence of interest in this old art form of seeing the creator in these works of nature--for which this beautiful area is so famous.

Congrats to Dartmouth's Bob McGrath for producing such a painstaking piece of work on this school. Also look for Catherine Crawford's book on indexing all the available paintings she could note in her book for the Forest Society. John Henderson has a great web page on them, too.

I produced an article for the MountainEar newspaper after this course, in time for the annual sales of these historic paintings by enthusiastic collectors. There will also soon be an exhibition and interpretative display in a newly constructed Intervale Overlook building in North Conway, where this scene attracted many of the old artists in its time.

i didn't buy this from amazon (sorry), but i found this comic at a local store in french "tu m'aimerais encore si je fais pipi au lit?" my boyfriend stumbled upon it and started chuckling to himself. i took a look at what he was enjoying and was immediately enchanted myself. each simple 4 panel comic gives you a glimpse into the amazing and mundane moments in a relationship which liz captures so well. i am a big fan and looking forward to more comics from liz!

This is the most adorable set of images I've ever seen in my life. Life is a collection of moments, and this book is filled with moments of character and humor beyond what words are able to describe. It's all so simple, but hits a person somewhere much deeper. In all seriousness, it makes my heart fuzzy.
