Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Product Description

`History: Fiction or Science? Chronology 2` is the second volume of the most explosive and astounding tractate on history ever written - however, every theory it contains, no matter how unorthodox, is backed by rock solid scientific data. The book is easy and pleasant to read; it is well-illustrated, contains hundreds of charts, graphs and illustrations, copies of ancient manuscripts, and countless facts attesting to the falsity of the chronology used nowadays. You will be amazed to discover: - That the chronology universally accepted today and taken for granted is simply wrong; - That ALL methods of dating of ancient sources and artefacts known today are erroneous or non-exact; - That there is not a single document that could be reliably dated earlier than the XIth century; The Author refers to the Middle Ages as the “Antiquity” and proves mutual superimposition of the Second and the Third Roman Empire, both of which become identified as the respective kingdoms of Israel and Judah. Furthermore, he asserts that the famous reform of the Occidental Church in the XI century by “Pope Gregory Hildebrand” was the reflection of the XII century reforms of Byzantine emperor Andronicus who in his turn identifies with Jesus Christ. The Trojan war counted by Homer happened only as late as of the XIII century A.D. and the great poet actually lived in XIV century A.D. No stone in history of Antiquity is left unturned. Literally. This book is the beginning of a major correction to the chronology we live with.

I don't care what other people say of this book. Those affirmig it's fake, they hadn't ever read it. Or have some special reasons to do so. "Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see..." This book won't make you feel comfortable. It'll make you feel free. It'll make you feel you're "not the only one" to feel you'd been lied to for centuries.

5 out of 5 stars Suprise! Suprise!.......2007-03-22

Here is a serie of books which turns "the whole world" upside down. I learned a lot of it and I hope that a new book from A.T. Fomenko will follow very quick. A absolute must for everybody who is interested in history or even a little bit from it.

5 out of 5 stars Prescient St Augustine?.......2006-02-05

We can so far divide the New Chronology into the following three parts:

a) The verifiable theory that proves consensual chronology wrong with the aid of astronomy, statistics and mathematics;

b) The new chronology hypothesis based on a new understanding of known historical facts and the most likely logical explanation of the most obvious inconsistencies inherent in the official version of history;

c) The history conjectures, that is experimental historical reconstructions based on assumptions that the authors believe to make sense in the light of their research and linguistic parallels - void of ironclad factual support to date.

Fomenko's theory complies with the most rigid scientific standards as a whole:

It gives a coherent explanation of what we already know.

- It is consistent: independent lines of inquiry all lead to the same conclusion.

- The predictions it makes are confirmed empirically.

Fomenko goes by the following axioms:

- Chronology is the basis of history;

- Human evolution has always been linear, gradual and irreversible;

- The "cyclic" nature of human civilization is a myth, likewise all the gaps, duplicates, "dark ages" and "renaissances" that we know from consensual history;

- The accumulation of geographical knowledge as reflected in cartography is a gradual and irreversible process;

- The chronological distance between a given manuscript and the events described therein is proportional to the amount of distortions it contains;

- There is no "useless" information in authentic ancient sources.

Why the mainstream historians do not shower mathematician Academician Dr.Prof Fomenko with thanks and laurels?

The Russians:

Because Fomenko asserts that there was no such thing as the Tartar and Mongol invasion followed by three centuries of slavery, providing a formidable body of documental evidence to prove his assertion. The so-called "Tartars and Mongols" were the actual ancestors of the modern Russians, living in a bilingual state with Arabic spoken as freely as Russian. The ancient Russian state was governed by a double structure of civil and military authorities. The hordes were actually professional armies with a tradition of lifelong conscription (the recruitment being the so-called "blood tax"). Their "invasions" were punitive operations against the regions that attempted tax evasion. Fomenko proves that Russian history as we know it today is a blatant forgery concocted by a host of German scientists brought to Russia by the usurper dynasty of the Romanovs, whose ascension to the throne was the result of coup d'état, charged with the mission of making their reign look legitimate. Fomenko proves Ivan the Terrible to be a collation of four rulers, no less. They represented the two rival dynasties - the legitimate rulers and the ambitious upstarts. The winner took it all! Over some 30 years of controversy, Russian historians have made a most remarkable transition - they were initially accusing the young mathematician Fomenko of anticommunist dissident activity and attempts to deface the historical legacy of Soviet Russia; nowadays the middle-aged mathematician is accused of adhering to "pro-communist Russian nationalism" and defacing the proud historical legacy of Great Russia.

The Westerners:

Because Fomenko blows consensual Russian history to smithereens, successfully removing a crucial cornerstone from underneath the otherwise impeccable edifice of World History. Fomenko adds insult to injury, wiping out one by one the Ancient Rome (the foundation of Rome in Italy is dated to the XIV century A. D.), the Ancient Greece and its numerous poleis, which he identifies as the mediaeval crusader settlements on the territory of Greece, and the Ancient Egypt (the pyramids of Giza become dated to the XI-XV century A. D. and identified as the royal cemetery of the Global "Mongolian" Empire, no less). The civilization of the Ancient Egypt is irrefutably dated to the XII-XV century A. D. with the aid of the ancient Egyptian horoscopes cut in stone. He was the first one to decipher and date all such horoscopes, coming up with mediaeval dates in every case. English historians rage at the suggestion that the history of Ancient England was de facto a Byzantine import transplanted to the English soil by the fugitive Byzantine nobility. To reward the English historians who consider themselves the true scribes of World History, the cover of the present book portrays Tintoretto's Jesus Christ crucified on the Big Ben.

The Chinese:

Because Fomenko wipes out the Ancient History of China outright. No such thing. Full point. The compilation of the so-called Ancient Chinese History is reliably datable to the XVII-XVIII century only. It is perfectly recognizable as the Ancient European history, reworked and transcribed in hieroglyphs as yet another historical transplantation, this time performed on the Chinese soil by the loving Jesuit hands. The Chinese are the next in line to go berserk. Chinese history is inevitably bound to get both more ancient and more eventful, proportionally to the growing involvement of China in the world affairs. Chinese historians will keep on finding valid proof of prehistoric Chinese spaceflights until the Politburo orders them to shut up.

The Arabs:

Too bad. Islam with all its key figures is datable to XV-XVI century A. D. Arabic historians may find consolation in the crucial historical role of the Ottoman Empire in the XVI-XVII century. The trouble is that this empire was initially a Christian state, with Hagia Sophia identifiable as Temple of Solomon, according to Fomenko! We can only guess if the acquisition of Alexander the Great (a Macedonian and a Christian) as the founder of the Muslim World Empire will make Fomenko's theories more acceptable to the Arabic mainstream. He certainly does not spare any holy cows at all, claiming The Stone of Qa'Aba in Mecca to contain the lost Arch of the Covenant.

The Divinity:

Despite of reiterated statement that his theory is all about chronology and not Religion, Fomenko stirs up a whole condominium of wasp nests. His collection of anathemas, fatwa, and other condemnations from all parties concerned is already considerable. Little wonder, considering that the history of religions à la Fomenko looks as follows: the pre-Christian period (before the XI century and JC), Bacchic Christianity (XI-XII century, before and after JC), JC Christianity (XII-XVI century) and its subsequent mutations into Orthodox Christianity, the Catholicism, Islam, Buddhism, and so on.

According to Fomenko we know strictly NOTHING about the events that predate the X century A. D.

St Augustin was prescient when he spoke unto us: "be wary of mathematicians, particularly when they speak the truth."

4 out of 5 stars Something of a disappointment.......2005-09-09

After having read the first volume of this expected series of 7 volumes I was triggered by the thesis of these authors that ancient Greek and Roman history did in fact take place in the Middle Ages. So I started studying medieval history of the Middle East - also known as Islamic history - to find out if the opponents of the ancient Greeks and Romans - the Acheamenid Persians, Sassanids, Scythians, Egyptians, etc. - also have their duplicates in medieval history. My search was disappointing: none of the many medieval Islamic dynasties seemed to correspond to the ancient middle eastern rulers.

However, I did find a close correspondence between Herodotus' Persian kings and medieval events:

- the defeat and capture of an Anatolian king - the Lydian Croesus - by the Persian conqueror Cyrus is identical to the defeat and capture of another Anatolian king - sultan Bayezid - by the Asian/Mongol conqueror Tamerlane;
- the Persian conquest of Egypt by the cruel tyrant Cambyses reds almost exactly as the Ottoman conquest of Egypt by Selim the Grim (note the nickname!);
- Darius the Lawgiver of the Persian Empire looks very much alike to Sulayman the Magnificent, the Lawgiver in Islamic history;
- Xerxes, whose main claim to fame is to be defeated by the Greeks at the naval battle of Salamis, looks like Selim II (the Sot) whose main claim to fame is to be defeated by a Spanish-Italian alliance at the naval battle of Lepanto.

I should have expected Fomenko et al. to arrive at similar conclusions, however, they claim that the Persian kings are the alter egos of the Angevin kings of Sicily whose biographies do not contain the exploits of the Persian kings.

The similiarities I indicate lead to the conclusion that Herodotus must have written his Histories at the close of the 16th century. But this is extremely late, given that Herodotus is "the Father of History", so therefore all other "ancient" histories must have been fabricated even later. Yet, the founders of modern chronology - Scaliger and Petavius - laid their foundations also at the close of the 16th century and had the full corpus of ancient histories already at their disposal.

It seems to me that Fomenko has to address these inconsistencies, maybe in the forthcoming 5 volumes?

Another critique of their book is that the correspondencies between different rulers are often based on a superficial comparison of the biographies; upon a more thorough comparison many details appear that do not correspond at all.

Finally, the authors rely heavily on the works of Gregorovius (1821-1891!!) - his medieval histories of Rome and Athens - as the source of medieval history; these works are - at least in the West - hoplessly outdated and have been superceded by more up-to-date works (for instance, Julius Norwich's trilogy on Byzantine history is not even cited).

5 out of 5 stars Romulus courts Helen, Paris founds Rome, Moses goes to Troy.........2005-07-30

If you agree with Fomenko that Roman chronology is basically the foundation of the entire edifice of global chronology; you would also certainly agree that despite its numerous gaps and inconsistencies, Roman history is the best-documented field of ancient history, and thus a reference scale. But how well is the actual date of the Eternal City's foundation known?

Firstly, Rome is supposed to have been founded by the Trojans who had to flee after the fall of Troy. Some claim Rome to have been founded by Aeneas and Ulysses shortly after Troy had fallen; others are of the opinion that there was an entire dynasty that ruled for 500 years between the fall of Troy and the foundation of Rome.

Well, that's just an innocent 500 years long misunderstanding compared with what heretic Fomenko says, asserts, proves in his second volume: Second Roman Empire, Third Roman Empire, Biblical Kingdom of Israel, Biblical Kingdom of Judah, Holy Roman Empire are stories about basically same events, written from different points of view at different times. The underlying events have actually taken place during xii-xv cy. These histories have been written and perfected by multitude of highly talented humanist and clerical writers of xiii-xvi cy disguised as "ancients" with glorious names like Homer, Pluto, Thucydides etc..Chronology 2.0 beta..

The prophetic Mayan calendar is not keyed to the movement of planetary bodies. Instead, it functions as a metaphysical map of the evolution of consciousness and records how spiritual time flows--providing a new science of time.

The calendar is associated with nine creation cycles, which represent nine levels of consciousness or Underworlds on the Mayan cosmic pyramid. Through empirical research Calleman shows how this pyramidal structure of the development of consciousness can explain things as disparate as the common origin of world religions and the modern complaint that time seems to be moving faster. Time, in fact, is speeding up as we transition from the materialist Planetary Underworld of time that governs us today to a new and higher frequency of consciousness--the Galactic Underworld--in preparation for the final Universal level of conscious enlightenment. Calleman reveals how the Mayan calendar is a spiritual device that enables a greater understanding of the nature of conscious evolution throughout human history and the concrete steps we can take to align ourselves with this growth toward enlightenment.

5 out of 5 stars The Mayan Calendar and the Transformation of Consciousness.......2007-01-09

This book is very technical and takes a while to read. However, the information is important enough to take the time to read the book.

4 out of 5 stars Thought-provoking work not to be ignored..........2006-12-31

Carl Johan Calleman applies a convincing interpretation of the evolution of consciousness to the Mayan Calendar system, provoking interesting possibilities over the next 6 years for energies that might become available to anyone open to working with them. Far from fatalistic, he promotes a view of rapidly increasing opportunity. Getting there however, may not be easy. The first part of the book is rather dense, and the references (to illustrations, etc.) jump all over the place, so stick with it - it's worth it.

5 out of 5 stars Provocative, Mind-Blowing Esotericism.......2006-10-27

I've bought approximately nine copies of this book. When I first started reading it I wanted to shout from the rooftops that Calleman had discovered the spiritual rosetta stone that would unify all religious traditions. I found it inspiring, provocative and informative. Having bought so many copies and distributed them to interested friends and acquaintances I can also say very few will respond to this material the way I did. I would recommend it to anyone interested in comparative religion, Mayan and Aztec religion & History, World History & Religion and for those who want to speculate what the next decade may hold in store for humanity.

3 out of 5 stars Read Callemans Other Mayan Calendar Book FIRST!.......2006-09-14

The authors first book on this subject, after years spent deciphering and interpreting from the historical remains, is called "Solving the Greatest Mystery of Our time : The Mayan Calendar (Paperback)" and is far, far more detailed than this book which relates more to spirituality and evolutionary theories of prophetic understanding. The other book is much more detailed in the math and base 20 number system that they used to count all the way back 16,640,000,000 years ago and by the Gregorian Date of October 28, 2011 - when the Mayan Calendar 360 Day Caldendar Count will flip from when it started almost 16.64 Billion Years ago. By then anything that could, would or should have happened will have already manifest our collective evolutionary destiny.

That is correct as you read it: the date of the big bang and the age of the universe, or it will be, in a few years when the whole 16+Billion will start again at zero and evolution will begin again - on a new wave length frequency for each level of 9 there are in the the cycles of billions of years. It is extremely complicated, do not expect to understand more than just the idea for at least the first month or two. Gradually, it will get to be easier but at first it is a shock and challenge to the one stable, steady force structuring and scripting all of the lives on the planet who all subscribe to the calendar. Between the days of the year, time of day and holidays there is nothing about the calendar that we have ever questioned except to compare our system.
However, no good reason exists for blind allegience to a system of counting days of the week and seasons of the year devised by Pope Gregory in 1519 AD. We have all heard the reason, it was to correct the deficiencies of the Julian which was then out of whack by over ten days and something needed to be done to know when to plant crops, when to harvest and when to pay taxes. The sole purposes of the Gregorian Calendar was to get everyone to church on time every week, pay the Sunday tithe in Mass, plant the crops in the spring on time and harvest in the fall - on time to pay the annual taxes.
So the Julian was really replaced to divert any notice of the Mayan system which was discovered by Cortez in 1519 during the Conquistadors. It was a calendar the Pope needed to keep track of the year DURING the year (the word 'calendar' is from Old French 'calendier' from Latin 'kalendarium' or 'account book'). But the Mayans had a calendar for that and it is more accurate than the one Pope Gregory imposed and they used the 'Haab' for agriculture but they were not watching and guessing about the purpose of their ingenuity. They already knew what they were counting, which were days every day.
So, what we call a calendar today is largely what it has always been used for in recent history ("a chart or series of pages showing the days, weeks and months or a particular year, or giving particular seasonal information.") The Mayans were counting time, in a precise system accurate to a greater degree than we are still today.

Like I said, extremely complicated, frustrating and in my opinion, if it inspires you then you have your work cut out for you, dig in and get on with expanding your consciousness. If it does not make sense, or it is distasteful, offensive or creates an uncontrollable need to be critical or condescending without understanding, well I will hope that inspiration finds all of us soon.

When it finds you, come find this book!

5 out of 5 stars Do not go back to sleep.......2006-09-03

Well researched well written book about the Mayan Calendar and what it might mean to us today.
Easy to read and understand.2012 is not to be feared but looked at the possibility of how the world is changing and why. Barbara Hand Clow uses this book in her current work as I do to help people wake up to the changes that are happening. It is not the end of the world but a new world everyday to awaken to, appreciate and live in.

Book Description

A chronology of the Bible (first published in 1972) is perhaps his most popular work. Originally prepared at the request of a group of Harlem-based ministers, Chronology documents the African origins of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Dr. Ben traces significant influences, developments, and people that have shaped and provided the foundation for the holy books used in these religions.

2 out of 5 stars A waste of time.......2006-04-12

I am surprised by the glowing reviews posted because I found the book shallow, incomplete and devoid of any useful detail. Of course the price is very low, but paying anything for something that has no value is no bargain.

It was probably worth the $4 I paid for it, but that may be debatable.

5 out of 5 stars a beautiful to the point book.... A MUST HAVE........2006-03-31

this small pamphlet of information is very helpful. it points out the first typed bible, first bible written in english and also bibles that were written to satisfy certain kings and a lot of other good points. it points out the many bibles that were printed in the u.s. which were 16 different versiions. i feel sorry for christians and catholics. see this pamphlet of information just re-affirms for me to keep following my african roots in religion. i wonder what religion this author is. i doubt chrisitian. i believe these bibles in america change so often because they have to always trick or keep the next generation away from the truth. because of authors like dr. ben and books such as this i can easily pick out everything african out of the bible and place it in my heart. although im not christian or muslim or any thing thats popular in religion, i read the bible to pluck all black ancient history for my research. i also read the bible because most christians and catholics dont and i love to know more than they do about their own religoin and i usually put christian and catholics in their place using their own book against them. with books such as this one with the symbol of life on the cover, now i see why black celebs such as chuck d., erika bahdu, etc have used the symbol of life (african cross) on their album covers. its all african. i love dr. ben and all black man who looked death in the face and still brought forth this valuable information of truth to you and i. we all know blacm men were getting killed all the time for printing the truth. i love dr. ben for not being afraid of using freedom of speech especially durning his time in the earlier 1900's when we were really being lynched an killed just because we wanted human rights. THANK YOU DR. BEN.

5 out of 5 stars "Good and Honest!".......2005-07-25

Dr. Ben has given us a simple, straight to the point summary on what scholars should know on Bibical History. For those who think that he has a secret agenda, reader know that Dr. Ben is indeed a Jew. Judaism practicers were originally all Africans. This could be understood if you are aware that Judaism springs from Egypt, wich is in Africa. Examples range from the creation story(Khnum), the flood(Ra and Hathor),Jacobs the dreamer, monotheism(Ahkenaton), the golden calf(Hathor), 7 day creation, the Laws(Book of the Dead), and the Christ myth(Osiris,Isis,and Horus)got their model in Egypt. Not to mention according to the Bible Abraham,Jacob,Joseph,Moses, and Jesus all went to Egypt. Also any Bibical schoar should know that the old testament wasn't compiled until 200 B.C at the library of Alexandria, in Egypt. It was written from Hyroglyphics, and papyras texts of the Egyptians. This is not just speculation, but fact. Anybody serious in this study should read African Origin of Western Religion(Dr. Ben), Arican presence in Early Asia(Ivan Van Sertima), 16 Crucified Saviors(Kersey Graves), and Aricans who wrote the Bible(Nana Darkwah).

Being that I spent some summers in Harlem with my Aunt and I have been there for the layman religous forum at that same Chock Full of Nuts I think the pamphet hits its mark but it is very important to understand that this was extracted out of the Authors 3 part volume. Now those volumes are a must read if this book has interest you.

5 out of 5 stars Required reading for King James Version followers.......2002-12-14

I used to think the kjv was the only bible from God (OT) written in his own words and later in Jesus (NT) words. After reading this reference guide, I have come to understand the bible is a collection of stories (versions)written from "men inspired by God" (see front credits of any kjv) including Shakespeare. This means anyone "inspired by God" can write such a inspirational book such as a pastor, bishop, rabbi, cardinal, etc. Even an ordinary man or woman can do so if he/she is "inspired" to do so. My second discovery which is just as fascinating, was at least 16 major versions of the bible were written before the kjv. The first one written approx 6000-7000 years ago (5000-4100 BC) There are also dozens of bibles other than kjv that you should find somewhat difficult or expensive to obtain. (I wonder why!) I close in saying the 3 major religions, Christanity, Judiasm and Islam all require you to seek God through Jesus, Abraham and Mohammad and basically three books (KJV, Talmud/Torah, Koran). Just like there are dozen of references to read about any subject, one should seek out more than one reference to the truth.

    Book Description

    The Pan American Games, second only to the Olympics as the biggest international sports competition in the world, are held every four years (during the year prior to the Summer Olympics) under the sponsorship of the International Olympic Committee. The first Pan American games were scheduled to take place in Buenos Aires in 1942, but the outbreak of World War II forced the games to be postponed. The first Pan American Games were held on February 25, 1951, with more than 2,500 athletes from 22 countries participating.

    This book lists the results of the Pan American Games from their commencement to the most recent games in 1999. The results are listed by sport (alphabetically), and each listing includes a chronology of the sport in the context of the Pan American Games; a list of the gold, silver, and bronze winners for each year; and charts that show how many medals each country won for that sport in each set of games. Also included are lists of the medals by country, medals by sport, sports by years contested, countries of the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO), presidents of PASO, and a chronology of the Pan American Games.

    "America irate over Lusitania sinking" (May 1915). "Americans and Russians meet at Elbe" (April 1945). "U.S. goes on the offensive in Vietnam" (December 1965). "U.S. launches cruise missiles" (August 1998). America's Century tells the history of the belligerent 20th century in the form of modern newspaper articles. Though at times it seems that the 20th century was constantly racked by war, the entries in this weighty tome cover everything from military history, political changes, and scientific discoveries to cultural milestones and obituary notices. For example, headlines from 1967 include "Vince Lombardi's Packers defeat Kansas City in first Super Bowl," "Detroit race riot worst in U.S. history," "3 astronauts burn to death on launching pad in Apollo tragedy," and "Ali stripped of title for resisting draft."

    This lavishly illustrated book covers much of the same ground as The 20th Century Day by Day, but focuses specifically on the American experience. In addition to the now familiar newspaper format, the century has been divided up into three major periods, each of which is introduced with a brief overview. Perfect for browsing, it is difficult to put down--not surprising, when each turn of the page reveals gems such as "Trouble ahead: Casey Jones wrecks train, saves passengers" (April 1900), "Lucky Lindy hops over the Atlantic" (May 1927), "Radio Martian landing terrifies Americans" (October 1938), "Americans are in space" (July 1961), "Reagan aims high with space shield idea" (March 1983), and "California okays marijuana" (November 1996). There are even photos from the worldwide celebrations on December 31, 1999. America's Century is a beautiful book that will thrill any history buff. --Sunny Delaney

    5 out of 5 stars Fabulous book!!.......2002-01-28

    I grabbed this book off the shelf at the library and have had to continuously return to check it out again and again, and again. I'm finally going to buy it.

    The book's "chapters" are divided up by year, going chronologically from 1900 to 2000. Each year has newspaper articles and photos of events, styles, sports, politics, etc. It does a great job of re-creating the excitement of the times. It also puts certain things into perspective. For example, being born in the 70's, I had a hard time really understanding why racism was so prevelent. I was able to read about Jackie Robinson and other significant turning points--such as the first black actor on Broadway. I still find it difficult to believe how we could be so racist just a short time ago.

    It's really riveting to read and see the events each year and how things change. Some inventions don't seem important at the time but turn out to be huge.

    This book is a real page turner, but due to how it is divided up, can easily be something you slowly savor over the long-haul.

    I strongly encourage you to pick up a copy and experience history, one news story at a time.

    Book Description

    From reviews of the first edition:
    "Here's a gem of a book...all peppered with delightful notes from science fiction films, novels, and comics. I can't turn a page without finding a jewel."
    Clifford Stoll, University of California, Berkeley (author of "The Cuckoo's Egg")
    From the Foreword by Kip Thorne (author of "Black Holes and Time Warps"):
    "In browsing this revised edition, I have been struck by the richness and complexity of the tapestry of ideas that Nahin presents. His interweaving of physics and fiction is done adeptly and keeps the book flowing.... Like a good journalist, Nahin simply reports what he sees in the physics and science fiction literature, commenting lucidly and often pointedly on the interconnections, contradictions, and controversies, but leaving it to his readers to form their own final judgments.... Nahin's book, with its complex tapestry of ideas and possibilities, may well remain the most readable and complete treatise on time travel in science and science fiction."
    Time Machines explores the idea of time travel from the first account in English literature to the latest theories of physicists such as Kip Thorne and Igor Novikov. This fascinating and very accessible book covers a variety of topics including the history of time travel in fiction; the fundamental scientific concepts of time, space-time, and the fourth dimension; the speculations of Einstein, Richard Feynman, Kurt Goedel, and others; time travel paradoxes, and much more. The new edition is substantially enlarged and updated throughout.

    1 out of 5 stars Suffers from being written by a nonscientist.......2007-06-12

    While Nahin is certainly to be admired for attempting to tackle so great a concept as time travel, one needs to approach his resulting product with great caution.

    A full discussion of time travel should include the following elements:

    1) A presentation of the various arrows of time and a discussion of their fact like or law like nature, by way illustration being:

    1 a) The perceptual arrow of time or time as percieved by the human observer. Interestingly enough, this sometimes runs at GREAT variance from the actual movement of local time in nature;

    1 b) The cosmic expansion arrow of time believed by conventional wisdom to be THE arrow of time from which all others are derived;

    1 c) The gravitional arrow of time; and

    1 d) The quantum arrow of time including a discussion of K particles which unlike any other matter in nature actually show a time asymmetry. It is for this reason that Oxford's Roger Penrose has suggested that K particles or Kaons might themselves be responsible for being THE arrow of time.

    2) A discussion of the different methods that have been proposed for evading the implications of these arrows of time:

    2 a) Starting with Einsteinian relativity whose precepts allow for a limited time travel of sorts in that they permit local observers through greater excelleration towards light speeds to experience time more slowly than their nonaccelerated peers;

    2 b) Kurt Godel's solutions of Einstein's equations allowing for time travel in a rotating universe (unlike ours) which is also smaller than ours;

    2 c) Kip Thorne's black hole wormhole solutions which also suggest the possiblity of time travel...albeit at only subatomic levels;

    2 d) J Richard Gott's black hole solutions which both allow time travel when the universe's mass is compressed to subatomic levels and interestingly enough allow the universe to create itself;

    2 e) J Richard Gott's supposed cosmic strings which would allow time travel assuming the existence of as yet undiscovered cosmic strings;

    2 f) And now -- since the publication of this book -- U Connecticut's Ronald Mallett's gravitional laser solutions which attempt to capitalize on the premise that sufficient amounts of laser light do create a gravitional force which can be capitalized on to stir time and create a local field variance to allow for the sending of signals through time.

    Such a book would also discuss the fact that:

    3) The various arrows of time and the ways in which they have been proposed to be manipulated are all but the academic side of what is an eternal human yearning to revisit the past and remedy its wrongs or re-enjoy its joys a task that may occur anyway owing to:

    4) The argument that reality is not a discrete entity but rather a normalization of one possibility wave function of reality. Contrary to the assertions of Nahin, even no less than Stephen Hawking has suggested that the existing universe might be best seen as the product of its wave function. Likewise, noted physicists Paul Davies and Michio Kaku have ably described both the fact and reasons for this view. Accordingly, so viewed:

    5) There is reasonable support for the proposition that the so called time travel paradoxes that so plague philosophical discussions of time fail to likewise plague the actual physical realities of time travel itself.

    Although Nahin admittedly covers these bases his work nonetheless suffers from its lack of scientific understanding.

    True, our current state of knowledge may cast a dim light on the potential of time travel. That being said, all we really know about what lies beyond the event horizon of black hole or in the 10 the 43rd power of the first second of the universe and with it multiple universes and quantum gravitiy and time travel is that we have a lot to learn.

    For your purposes however, you should probably best do your learning from Paul Davies (About Time), Deiter Zeh (The Physical Basis for the Direction of Time), Kip Thorne (Gravitation and his Black Holes and Time Warps), Stephen Hawking (A Brief History of Time and Black Holes and Baby Universes), as well as the likes of H.G. Wells (Time Machine).

    They speak just fine on their own and do not need an intermediary.

    1 out of 5 stars Awfully weak.......2004-08-08

    I got the second edition (1999) of this book. I was hoping for something interesting. After all, there was even a forward by none other than Kip Thorne!

    But this book was an awful disappointment. First, Nahin did his readers no favor by utterly failing to understand the writings of Hospers. On pages 289-290 and elsewhere, Nahin criticizes Hospers strongly, but Nahin is seriously in error. For one thing, Nahin claims that Hospers says that one can not go back in time while Nahin says it is possible. In fact, the reverse is true. Hospers says that time travel is possible and Nahin actually is arguing against it. To put it mildly, Nahin is an intellectual lightweight who has become totally confused by the plethora of time-travel paradoxes.

    Nahin is so sure that there is only one worldline and so sure that anyone who disagrees with him does not understand this that he simply refuses to read anything which hints at multiple world lines. However, if he wants to disagree with those who discuss the concept of multiple world lines, he ought to read what they say first and even try to understand it!

    On top of this, I was amazed at the amount of material (some of it interesting and some of it nonsense) written about people travelling to the past, as opposed to people merely sending signals to the past. A fundamental scenario would be to send a book to a time 50 years earlier, thereby "creating" information (the author, having already received the book, might no longer need to write it). Or perhaps sending instructions to the past on how to build a camera, so that various famous historical events could be filmed and sent back to the "future." I think topics such as these would have merited some discussion.

    3 out of 5 stars Too much compilation, too little synthesis.......2003-11-24

    Mr. Nahin obviously is very interested in the topic of time travel. He has read tons of sci-fi stories, has spoken with many physicists and/or read their books.
    But he is a journalist, not a physicist. And he makes little or even no effort to synthesise.
    As a result the book reads mostly like a list of everything that has been written by sci-fi writers, scientists and philosophers about the subject. But not like a book by someone who truly understands what is going on - provided it is possible to understand.
    In my view this is a good book because of all the material in it, all the references. But it is not a good book per se. I gave it 3 out of 5, including 1 point for all the references.

    4 out of 5 stars A very good discussion of time travel, one error of omission.......2002-09-29

    As I have always been fascinated by the idea of time travel, I very much enjoyed its discussion both in 'strictly scientific' terms and from a philosophical, literary, and, essential, pop-culture perspective.
    Sadly, Nahin completely ignores one aspect that features prominently in many modern time travel narratives: the idea of alternate universes / alternate realities and, tied to that, the narrative perspective of sequentiality, which follows the POV of the protagonist of a narrative and projects his continuity against the alterations his actions cause. As a result, a number of time travel stories are missing, while others show flaws/inconsistencies in their interpretations. For instance, Isaac Asimov's The End of Eternity (1955), which deals with the idea of realities literally being 'engineered' through minimum manipulations in the course of history, thus weeding out 'mishaps' like world wars and famines but at the same time stalling natural progress, remains completely unmentioned. On the other hand, Nahin points to the 'flaw' in the end of Back to the Future I that the shopping mall should always have been "Lone Pine Mall" and never "Twin Pines Mall" as it was called in the beginning because taken from a timeline perspective, Marty had already been to 1955 and run over one of the twin pines with the DeLorean when the temporal experiment #1 took place in the parking lot in 1985. However, taken from this perspective, Marty's family should have been healthy and wealthy from the beginning on as well, which would undermine the whole plot idea of changing history (which is, added to that, even expressedly discussed in detail in the also unmentioned Back to the Future II).
    Nevertheless, Nahin gives a lot of food for thought on the idea of time travel, and the rather extensive bibliography supplies a very good reference for further individual exploration.

    5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Compilation.......2006-01-13

    I was raised in Washington, DC so this book is particularly close to my heart. It chronicles more than 300 years of black history in the nation's capital. From stories about slavery to the March on Washington, DC has a strong and varied African American history. It is arranged chronologically, with interesting tidbits and mini profiles on the sides. The pictures alone tell a wonderful story. A great addition to any history buff's shelf!

    "European arms race and war talk grow" (March 1914). "22,000 Nazis hold rally in New York" (February 1939). "Vietnam Reds launch Tet offensive" (January 1968). "First NATO air attack over Bosnia" (February 1994). The 20th Century Day by Day tells the history of that belligerent period in the form of modern newspaper articles. Though at times it seems that the 20th century was constantly racked by war, the entries in this weighty tome cover everything from military history, political changes, and scientific discoveries to cultural milestones and obituary notices. For example, headlines from May 1954 include "Dien Bien Phu falls to Communists," "High court orders school integration," "Bannister is first to break 4-minute mile," and "Giant brain foreshadows electronic office":

    Development of an "electronic brain" designed specifically for business use was announced today by the International Business Machines Corp. Capable of performing more than ten million operations an hour, the new device brings the all-electronic office closer to reality, the company said.

    This lavishly illustrated book is difficult to put down--not surprising, when each turn of the page reveals gems such as "Model T ready to roll" (August 1908), "Empire State Building is world's tallest" (May 1931), "Ingrid Bergman says she's no saint" (August 1949), "Sinatra and Mia are wed; go to London" (July 1966), and "Pompidou Center: factory or museum?" (February 1977). Some of the stories rely heavily on foreshadowing or are reported in a rather coy tone: "Nelson Rockefeller meets unusual end" ("...there were reports he died in the arms of a young, female friend while supposedly working on a book on art, one of his favorite subjects"). That said, The 20th Century Day by Day is a beautiful book, perfect for browsing, that will thrill any history buff. This updated edition now contains images from late 1999, including the worldwide celebrations on December 31. --Sunny Delaney

    3 out of 5 stars Biased towards American news - where is the World Cup?.......2004-11-03

    I've been reading this book since it was called the Chronicles in the early 1990's. I purposely waited till the new millennium because I wanted it to cover every single day (or month, to be precise) of the 20th Century, before actually making that final purchase decision.

    Well, I almost bought the book yesterday. After flipping through its colourful and information-packed pages as one last check, it seemed to me that the coverage of the book is biased towards news and events in USA. Something really obvious is the treatment on sports - for example, the authors made a big deal out of the Superbowl (the final of American football league), a sport only played and mostly watched by Americans. On every first page of each year (January), there's a photo and news article on the Superbowl. Seems very funny to me, this event is only played annually where as the FIFA World Cup ("soccer" to Americans & Australians) held every 4 years (involving all the nations worldwide, with 2 years of pre-qualifying) doesn't get similar coverage like the Summer Olympics where one whole centre-spread is dedicated to all the results.

    Come on! Football (or soccer) is a world game, it's like a "religion" to some - I think it should deserve more than just a line or two on the side bar. Where do you think all those great legends like Pele, Charlton, Beckenbauer, Maradona, Zidane, etc made their names, if not at the FIFA World Cup? A photo showing the winning nation holding the trophy aloft in the Final won't be too much to ask, I presume. Don't tell me an event as significant and profound as the World Cup (only second to the Olympics), watched and played by billions of people around the globe, should just be "passed over" in world history!

    5 out of 5 stars Buy this book!!!.......2002-03-30

    What can I say? The book is an incredible collection of every notable historical event in the last 100 years.

    The BEST part, to me, is the "chain reference" feature. When you get to the bottom of an article (about, say, the completion of the Hindenburg), there is a small date in italics at the end which points you to the next article concerning the Hindenburg. This is OUTSTANDING for following a chain of events through history.

    GREAT reading for knowledge or leisure!

    4 out of 5 stars Five-star History.......2001-05-09

    I was looking for a book that summarized World history during the 20th century and this is the one I chose to buy. I was more than happy with my copy. It is easy to look up specific events, and great for general browsing. I only had two complaints - one, that there was MORE detail in it (although that would have been very hard for a single volume!), and two, it didn't come with the CD that was made to go with it.

    5 out of 5 stars Bloody Marvelous!.......2000-02-10

    Cor, blimey! You won't be disappointed with this one. So many pages of so many stories, taken from the headlines as they were that day. It's almost like being there, be it 15, or 50 years ago. If you want to see how the print media saw the headlines as they were written then, this is the book for you.

    5 out of 5 stars Millennium 20th Century Day by Day.......1999-12-22

    This is an excellent resource book. It will provide one with endless material for research projects. Its great for chronologing events for someone's birthday or anniversary. It is also great for teachers and triva buffs.

    There is data for each day with special highlights for each month. A great conversation piece for your coffee table.
