Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

5 out of 5 stars Budge is a GREAT WAY to become FLUENT in this language.......2006-04-07

Budge is the best way to go if you are serious about becoming fluent in this beautiful language. The fact is that Budge puts the symbol, the transliteration, and the translation all together so you can know exactly what word you are reading and you can learn the syntax by reading his texts. You can pronounce it as you are learning it while reading the symbol all at the same time. The other wonderful thing about Budge is that he has loads of works out there. If you study one book, then you can easily move into other books and get the same reinforcement without having to learn some different author's other pronunciation key.

I know it is possible to use these books and become fluent. I am in the process of studying this language and a friend who is already fluent recommended these books for me (actually he reviewed Rosemary Clark's book The Sacred Tradition)--but another key point is to understand the essence behind the language. One who follows the Faith of the Gods of Ancient Egypt will be able to relate more to these texts because in order to understand a language such as this one, one must understand the spirit behind the language. Anyone can pick up a hieroglyphics book and learn to write people's names in hieroglyphics. To really understand the deeper aspect of the language, one must study it from the inside and not just as an observer. It is impossible to truly become fluent in a language by being just an observer.

I would recommend reading The Search for Omm Sety about a woman who was a famous Egyptologist and also practiced the Faith of the Gods. She was one of the few people who learned Ancient Egyptian language fluently and was able to understand and communicate its essence. Omm Sety was a personal friend of Budge and actually helped Budge to edit his work and pronunciation. You also may want to read The Sacred Tradition by Rosemary Clark. She was another author who became fluent in this language and she discussses the use of this language in her writings.

I highly recommend this book. Budge has the very best to offer for anyone serious about learning this language.

5 out of 5 stars egyptian heiroglyphic dictionaries.......2006-01-26

i have purchased both of the volumes of this set and have found a lot of differences in the main transliteration of the hieroglyphics, but these two books are well worth the money if you are just learning to read and write hieroglyphics.

2 out of 5 stars Egyptian Heiroglyphics.......2005-11-17

I wasn't happy with the book. It is outdated and doesn't measure up to some of the newer editions. I did get some benefit out of it but not enough to say the book was worth the price.

4 out of 5 stars This book is very useful!.......2004-06-10

This book has had very mixed reactions from those who have read it. Budge was writing at a time when people were unsure of the exact values of certain characters, and when many things about the Ancient Egyptians were still unknown. For this reason there are some strange mistakes in his dictionaries that many advanced scholars now criticse him for.

However, this book does offer one of the largest hieroglyphic dictionaries currently available and for this reason it is indispensable.A casual learner, who wants to be able to read the cartouches that appear on monuments and stelae can do so with Budge's king list.

An advanced scholar though, who needs to know the unusual words that can be found only in Budge's dictionaries, will have enough knowledge to correct his outdated transliteration.
For the casual student I recommend this book intensely, as it helps greatly with cartouches and formulaic inscriptions.
For the more advanced Egyptologist I also recommend this book, as it offers as I have said a far less "concise" version of Faulkner's Concise Dictionary.

P.S If you buy Volume One, do not forget to purchase Volume Two!

About 300 pages long with 2-3 articles per page. It is probably not useful for highly knowledgeable Egyptologists (for example, the stunning site of Abu Simbal gets about half a page - whereas a book could be written on it) but is a very compact resource for those who know a little and want to find out about particular topics. Or you can just flick through it and read about particular topics as they catch your eye - the maps, illustrations and photos are well selected and quite attractive. Also, since it is written by Englishmen it is mercifully quite free of the tedious P.C. stuff that is so prevalent in the academy today.

    Book Description

This is the second revised edition of the first up-to-date, and complete grammar of Egyptian Aramaic as presented in texts of Egyptian provenance dating from the middle of the first millennium B.C.E. and as edited by B. Porten and A. Yardeni in their Textbook of Aramaic Documents from Ancient Egypt (Jerusalem, 1986-1999). The grammar covers not only the phonology and morphology, but contains a substantial section on morphosyntax and syntax. It is a descriptive grammar enriched with the expert knowledge and familiarity of one of the co-authors with the contents and background of the texts in question. It is meant to replace P. Leander's Laut- und Formenlehre des Ägyptisch-Aramäischen (1928), but also supplements it substantially, because it had no syntax. Due to the utmost importance and interest of these ancient texts, this grammar is a vade mecum for every Aramaist, Semitist and Historian in the field.

I purchased this book here through Amazon, and I have to say that I cannot knock the contents of the book per say only that it was a difficult Read. I would say more for a University Setting. This one will take time to finish

4 out of 5 stars Love The Way It's Put Together!!!.......2002-08-28

It's separated out for each subject, for example "Orsiris" is a sub-section under "O", and "Afterlife" is a sub-section is under "A", this makes it very easy to use as a reference tool. The "Further Reading" section impressed me as well, and is a great tool within the book I plan to take advantage of. Again, as with most books I have read on Egyptian Mythology there is a lack of stories or "legends" within the book, containing more oppinions on the subjects rather than the "whole" stories themselves. I'd rather read the COMPLETE STORIES of myths and legends of the gods and obtain my own oppinion from it with a summary or hypothetical explaination at the end, yes I know this is never gonna happen but a girl can dream now can't she!! ;) Don't get me wrong I'm not dawging the book, it's wonderful in educating what type of artifacts egyptians used in thier religion, and summaries of why they use them. But my preference is to have the FULL story of the legend that goes with the use of the artifacts.

    5 out of 5 stars Caution!.......2002-05-05

This is an excellent collection of articles. However, potential purchasers should be advised that the articles are pulled from Donald Redford's Oxford Encyclopedia of Ancient Egypt, but without the extensive bibliographies, and with fewer illustrations. (The Introduction by Redford is, I believe, original to this volume.) If you already own the Encyclopedia, you might want to think twice before purchasing this book. If you don't already have the Encylcopedia, The Ancient Gods Speak will be an important addition to your shelf on Egyptian religion.

    Book Description

What do the enigmatic images on ancient Egyptian artifacts mean? What royal names adorn the walls of some of the world's oldest temples? What kind of lives did the people buried in the ancient tombs lead? The keys to unlock this fascinating civilization lie within the glyphs of their sacred language. Appearing a little before 3,000 B.C., Egyptian hieroglyphs were used for thousands of years to write names, label commodities, commemorate historical events, and convey complex stories.

This definitive educational tool provides a systematic, step-by-step approach to learning ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, complete with fun and increasingly challenging exercises and easy-to-reference sign and word lists. By the end of chapter one, readers will begin to decipher simple inscriptions; after completing the entire book, readers will be ready to tackle tomb and temple walls. While learning to decipher the language of the ancient Egyptians, readers will also learn about their history, social structure, and funerary beliefs. An invaluable resource, this book will appeal to amateur Egyptologists, as well as those looking to enhance their museum-going and travel experiences. AUTHOR BIO: Janice Kamrin holds a Ph.D. in Egyptology from the University of Pennsylvania, and she has taught, written, and lectured widely on the subject of ancient Egypt. She currently works with Zahi Hawass, Secretary of the Supreme Council of Antiquities of Egypt, on many of his publications.

5 out of 5 stars My first hieroglyphic book.......2007-10-10

I have just received this book. It is very well written. I read books about Egypt, but none dedicated entirely to hieroglyphs . After the first two chapters when I read some names (which I did not see before!) in the exercises area , I felt like a little Champollion . I like logic and this book makes possible to learn basic things in minutes!

5 out of 5 stars Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs: A practical guide.......2007-03-08

I think it is a very good book above all for beginners. If you are interested of learning about hieroglyphs and you know nothing at all about them this book is a good way to start learning. It is clear, interesting and funny indeed.

3 out of 5 stars Not for beginners.......2006-07-31

I have been studying Egyptian Hieroglyphs for five years utilizing all the teach-yourself-hieroglyph books I could find. I am very glad this was not the first hieroglyph book I picked up. Although it is a handsome, well laid out volume with color graphics, in depth explanations and lessons, it is filled with mistakes. Finding these mistakes is a fun exercise for someone who has previous knowledge of the subject but could be very confusing for the true beginner. The answer key is designed well, giving transliterations and translations but there are several instances where whole phrases are left un-translated. My favorite mistake is one of the hieroglyphic phrases in the lessons that when translated says, "your excellent husband." Ms. Kamrin needs to brush up on her masculine and feminine forms of suffix pronouns. She used the words hy.k ikr instead of hy.t ikr which means the phrase is being directed to a man. As the gang on Seinfeld used to say, "Not that there's anything wrong with that," but it could be confusing when learning the difference between the masculine and feminine forms of the word "your."

If you are a beginner and serious about studying hieroglyphs, I would suggest starting with these books: Egyptian Hieroglyphs: How to Read and Write Them by Stephane Rossini; Decoding Egyptian Hieroglyphs: How to Read the Secret Language of the Pharaohs by Bridget McDermott; and then How to Read Egyptian Hieroglyphs: A Step-By-Step Guide to Teach Yourself by Mark Collier and Bill Manly.

    5 out of 5 stars funzical wunzical.......2006-05-07

I really enjoyed learning hieroglyphics with Dr. Jan. Do not be fooled: they are not for the faint of heart. For those who are affrighted at Chinese and Japanese, hieroglyphics go even further toward multiplexing umpteen systems atop a single character set. But Dr. Jan endeavors to make it easy by using lively examples, color-coding some of the solutions, etc. If you have a strong memory and strong impetus, go for it. You will have a lot of fun and feel a tremendous sense of achievement.

    5 out of 5 stars Fantastic book.......2005-08-02

This is a great guide to learning to read from actual monuments and objects. I used the knowledge from the book to translate the faces of some Egyptian obelisks I saw while on vacation in Europe.

    I recommend this book unequivocally.

      Book Description

The Egyptian hieroglyphic script is one of the most beautiful, fascinating, and expressive writing systems ever invented. In Ancient Egypt, only an elite few could read and write hieroglyphs, but now you too can recognize and write a selection of names, titles, descriptions, sayings, greetings--even insults! For the ancient Egyptians, nothing could exist without a name--names held the spark of life. In this colorful illustrated guide, Angela McDonald explains how the Egyptians composed names for the elements of their world and along the way opens a fascinating window on their ancient culture--their gods, enemies, animals, and more. With practical guides and a lively, informative text, she shows how to create many charming and useful phrases in hieroglyphs for yourself, your friends, your pets--even your house. There are step-by-step tips on how to draw some of the trickier signs and a collection of genuine Egyptian phrases--greetings, laments, and insults--for use in your own compositions. In the words of one Egyptian papyrus, "By day write with your fingers, recite by night. Befriend the scroll and the palette--it's more fulfilling than wine!"

5 out of 5 stars A bit outdated, but good........2006-11-16

This is a good book for someone wanting to learn more about ancient Egypt. The only thing I don't like is that they only have infromation on the gods and symbols (hence the title), not any of the kings or queens or architecture. Again, good book.

1 out of 5 stars WARNING: ENTRIES OUTDATED AND NOT QUITE RIGHT.......2001-02-15

This title has two disvantages: there is a lot of information that is not referenced and that there is other which is completely outdated. Surely, I will not recommend this one for any newcomer and much less for any professional in the field. Illustrations are the only interesting thing in this title, and not so much so. Look for other "dictionaries" on Egyptian religion if you really want to know...

      5 out of 5 stars great book.......2000-04-29

This was a wonderful book It gives a great description of most of the gods and goddesses of egypt. The only problem is, alot of it is out dated and new discoveries about the gods and goddesses have been found since this book. It could really be revised and then it would be better. It would be a wonderful book for anyone interested in ancient egypt's religion.

1 out of 5 stars An Egyptologist says "NO" to Budge.......2006-12-17

I am an Egyptologist who teaches an online course in Egyptian hieroglyphs to the general public. While this book is widely available, don't let that fool you into thinking it is at all reliable. The one reason it is available is because it is out of copyright and the publishers can print it at will and reap all the profits without paying any royalties. If Egyptologists had any say over it, the book would be banned, as it is completely outdated and wasn't even considered a good book when it was first published nearly 100 years ago. When I first started studying Egyptian myself, my instructor started off the class by writing "Budge" on the board and enclosing it in a circle with a slash through it. That's how bad this book is. In my courses, students use and like James Allen's book on Middle Egyptian. It's recently published so it is up to date, and is written in a way that makes Egyptian comprehensible to the modern reader. It's infinitely better than Budge.

5 out of 5 stars great for egyptology enthusists.......2005-10-19

Book is very detailed review of heiroglyphics. My daughter is fasinated with the subject so it is an excellent addition to her library. This is not a book for the casual reader.

      5 out of 5 stars high culture.......2004-05-14

I do not agree with the belittleling views of some academic high brows about the books of Mr. Budge. I own almost whole collection of his works. In a surprising short time, I acquired a wealth of knowledge about this mind boggling culture and also learned to read ancient egyptian scriptures.I recommend to my egyptolover friends also to buy the dictionaries of Mr.Rainer Hannig. Unfortunately one should know german to make use of it in a more handy way.

5 out of 5 stars egyptian language: easy lessons in egyptian hieroglyphics.......2002-01-16

Fantastic material, great examples. Highly reccomend. Book was in great condition.

2 out of 5 stars Obsolete, incomplete, and wrong.......2001-01-18

This book may have some remaining marginal utility for people who just want to learn to write their name in hieroglyphics.

However, if your interest in the Egyptian language runs deeper than that, you will want to pass this one by. Budge uses a system of transliteration that is no longer the standard, and now only found in reprints of books by Budge himself. If you learn it, you will have to unlearn it later on. His presentation of the grammar is also obsolete and incomplete.

More serious students would be better served by Gardiner's -Egyptian Grammar-, or Allen's -Introduction to Middle Egyptian-, or even Mercer's similarly priced paperbacks.
