Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

The best introduction to the forgotten Balkan campaign of 1941.......2006-07-17
The German campaing in the Balkans in the spring of 1941 is a little mentioned episode in the history of World War II but it is really very interesting not only for its strategic consequences but also of its operational aspect. This excellent Time-Life book gives first the political and diplomatic background to the campaign, explaining how Hitler forged his alliance with countries like Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria, and how the coup in Belgrade changed the whole nature and scope of the operation. The analysis of the war against Yugoslavia and Greece is very well presented with many nice photographs and maps and the final chpater deals with the airborne assault on Crete, a real historical first. This is a very well made volume and a valuable addition to the library of every WW II buff.
Book Description
September 11th, 2001 marked the beginning of a world-wide war on terror. Unbeknownst to the citizens of the Western Powers, their governments are working on a modern-day Manhattan Project to create a weapon so potent, it will defeat the terrorists of the world once and for all. In an era when the very survival of liberty and the global economic system are daily threatened by weapons of mass destruction, the Western democracies ardently push the limits of the known universe to unleash a weapon of unrivaled omnipotence: a self-replicating assembler. Amidst these troubled times, a god-like figure rises to power. As leader of the newly created United Europe, Raphael Vicente sets out on a bold quest to exterminate disease, eliminate poverty, and destroy the world s oppressors. The ascendance of this breakthrough technology sets the stage for RaphaelÂ's dream: a world entrenched in democratic social justice for all peoples of the world. But in RaphaelÂ's world of black and white, the dream of eradicating injustice proves to be a formidable task, and in the end, manÂ's elusive pursuit of perfection drives him to the edge of never-before imagined consequences. In a struggle to provide adequate security while preserving liberty, quick decisions must be made Â- decisions that leave the world teetering on the brink of annihilation.

One of the best.......2004-07-09
This book is on a par with Caldwell's We All Fall Down and The Christ Clone Trilogy, the best of the endtime novels. Definitly worth your time.
Good, maybe great...but also somewhat disjointed.......2004-07-08
Gillette scores points for appending an original technological notion (molecular-nano-assemblers) to the ancient Christian apocalypse. He mixes Scriptures, vibrant description, and an almost poetic tone to offer up a truly unique science fiction tale. The characters develop via a series of vignettes, rather than through the typical combination of story, narration, and "thinking out loud" that most tales employ. All of this comes together to offer a very different and interesting read. At the same time, there was a disjointedness to the work, that distracted from the tension and suspense that the basic premise demanded.
Conquest of Paradise rises or falls for the reader, based upon the plausibility of scientists being able to build or generate a molecular-sized machine that could replicate itself into pre-programmed material. The notion is fascinating. It does seem very probable that the world would reach the brink of either paradise, tyranny, or total destruction if such a project became reality. The great weakness is this scenario is that fatalism seems to be the only conclusion. Is there really any way to keep this genie in the bottle? Perhaps the author intended to raise questions rather than answer them, but I'm not sure what we're suppose to do with his conclusions.
Bottom-line: This work seems important, and offers a unique approach to apocalyptic science fiction. However, the novel appears to be a rough draft that needs fleshing out.
Didn't click for me..........2004-06-13
Although I agree that this is a fairly quick read, I found it difficult to like, whether looking at it as a techno or political thriller, technical exposition on nanotechnology, or Revelations allegory. To get an idea of where I'm coming from, I tend towards books (when reading for fun) from authors that are relatively "well researched"* such as Michael Crichton, Tom Clancy, Umberto Eco, or (a little ashamed to admit :) Dan Brown. And to be quite frank, I found "Conquest of Paradise" to be, well, quite pedestrian -- there was simply not enough details, technical or otherwise, to make sense of the characters and their motivations, the various plot twists, and, most of all, the nanotechnology that is used as a plot device.
For example, there is a character in the book who serves as a leader of several of the Latin American Contra movements. It is straining (at best) when this character becomes an ardent opponent to Isamic terrorists without so much of an explaination except that he "fights for freedom and liberty." That is a nice sound-bite from our world leaders when they talk on CNN, but even those with cursory knowledge of the contra movements would think that this character would have at least somewhat of an understanding behind the motivations of "modern day" terrorists. To leave out even a discussion of the subject leaves leaves me thinking that either this character doesn't even express his true motivations on pages the author writes, or that the author hasn't done anything more than cursory research on the current fundamentalist movements and their roots.
In addition, given that we are observing the harrowing events in the book from the perspective of the leaders at the highest levels of world government, the lack of technical detail in the procedural processes that occur, the locations in the novel, and the outright colloquial nature of the characters' conversations and speeches (even the ones that are supposed to be "awe inspiring") makes it all very hard to take seriously. It feels like a B-grade "TV-movie" depiction of the people and processes in the government. This would have played out much better if it was told from the perspective of, say, an ordinary person living in such times; lack of details and technicalities then would be understandable.
Further, perhaps due to the fact that I am a scientist (though not in this field), the cursory treatment of nanotechnology, especially given its central role to the plot (and its use as analogy to events in Revelations), really makes it difficult for me to suspend disbelief at all. If it was some purely science fiction technology, then that would be one thing, but Gillette is trying to pass off these scenarios as realistically plausible, and anyone with a rudamentary eduction in high school physics (i.e. conservation of energy, momentum, etc.) should find the events in the book very, very difficult to believe even *with* an accompanying technical explanation. But even that is lacking. The "scientists" and engineers in the book use vague non-techical terms like "active shield" which may suffice for those without technical background, but even if you have only read the popular literature on the subject (such as Drexler's Engines of Creation and Levy's Artificial Life, both excellent, accessible tomes), the fact that everyone in the book talks about nanotech the way only a lay politician would is disturbing. Nonetheless, I must admit that even despite Crichton's amazingly well thoughtout lay-explainations in Prey, I still found events in Prey to be a bit unbelievable.
Finally, I had a couple of nitpicks: First, although all authors have their political persuasions, there seem to be several scenes littered throughout this book with no point other than to express a political opinion (for example, there is a scene involving the International Criminal Court which I can't fit in the plot at all, a NAFTA conversation involving a not-so-subtle poke at a particular American president, and a completely extreneous scene involving a particular diamond company). Second, although many reviewers disliked the opening 100 page exposition, I found this section to be the high point of the book -- although nothing really "happens," the characters do develop and the smaller scale of the events allow us to appreciate them much more than the later 200 pages, where they are essentially black-and-white protagonists with unchanging, singular goals acting at the mercy of the larger-than-life plotline. Third, I think part of the "muddled" feeling other reviewers got is from the interspersed "cut scenes" that introduce characters which never (or rarely) show up ever again. Fourth, though this might be an intentional lapse used to essentuate particular characters, the discussions of different religions and cultures is a very, very underdeveloped and is a simplified view of the world that is representative of almost no modern government leaders (even those who the media paint in such ways) -- these people went to school, they deal with multitudes of faiths and backgrounds on a day-to-day basis; they know that there is much more to the world than Christians, Muslims, Jews, and Hindus. But then this is just a 300-page novel, so perhaps that can be excused. And finally, I don't understand why Gillette makes up names for characters that are clearly direct analogs of figures in real life. Maybe it is polite, but when their details match those of the people we know so directly, it is a bit weird (makes you snicker a bit :).
It is certainly not a terrible read, though not one I can recommend either.
* By "well researched" I do not mean 100% (or even near 100%) technical accuracy; just enough emersive details in order to suspend disbelief in the lay (but educated) reader.
Great, thought-provoking read!.......2004-05-24
I asked for this book for my birthday after reading the reviews on Amazon. I had just finished most of the books in the Left Behind series and wanted something with more "meat". This book was it.
Initially, I was a little disappointed. The first couple of chapters didn't flow very well, in my opinion. But I kept reading and was glad I did.
The scientific/technology element to this story was facinating. The world we live in is so techno hungry and I see some plausability in this plot. The book is very well written and will pull you in. This is one I couldn't put down and only found myself wishing it had been longer!
If you are looking for a end-of-times book with more bite then the Left Behind series, this one will NOT disappoint you!
Exciting!.......2004-04-30
This novel is an absolutely exciting look at molecular nanotechnology, a technology on the rise. The author cloaks his story in the context of the Biblical Book of Revelation and the plot seems to move along with it seemlessly. Although it takes some time for the real action in this book to break loose, I guarantee you won't be disappointed if you read the whole book. The story is so real, it's scary. Read at your own risk.

This engaging book traces the history, archaeology, and legends of ancient Ireland from Neolithic times to the coming of England. Companion to the PBS documentary series. Marvelous. --Terry Golway, New York Observer

In Search of Ancient Ireland.......2007-01-16
This book was purchased as a Christmas present for my son. He's been reading it and says that it's real good. He's learning about some of our heritage.
A great find.......2006-05-16
I have read this book a number of times and it has become a great reference for me for Ireland before the English invasion. It has really great insight into modern Irish scholarship as the authors bring the latest archeological and anthropological finds to their work as they journey across the ancient sites of Ireland. I love the information on the Irish monastic system which was so different from our modern ideas of monasteries. I came to appreciate the real meaning of Celtic spirituality.
The TV series was made in Ireland with all scholars from Ireland and the awesome artifacts from the Irish national museum and the DVD is really spectacular - terrific visuals. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in learning about Ireland and Irish roots.
Must read if you are Irish.......2006-02-02
This book is extremely well written, factual and entertaining. I have an Irish friend who is an excellent story teller and I can read this book and imagine him sitting around a fire and telling stories. You can get a real feel for the history from reading this book.
Irish Tome.......2005-09-22
Wonderful overview of Irish history. Well written and informative without being dry.
Wonderful exploration.......2005-02-11
This book is a wonderful exploration into the origins of Ireland and the Irish. I learned so much from this. The authors bring fresh informaion from the new archeological source material as well as careful analysis of the ancient Irish texts. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to learn about pre-historic Ireland and into the Christian period. The Celtic question is clearly dealt with - did they come to Ireland? I enjoyed this scholarly discussion. All this was new to me. I also agree with the reviewer who praised the final chapter on the English invasion. Clearly stated and with great insight into the period.

A Truly New Philosophical Theology.......2000-06-01
This is an extraorindarily important book, written by a master scholar who is a pure thinker, who here gives us a reenactment of the transformation of post-Classical Western metaphysical and theological thinking culminating in the purely abstract time of our own world. Primary here are Aristotle, Marx, Plotinus, Augustine, and Scotus, but so, too, are drawn forth the metaphysical and theological ground of modern science, modern philosophy, and modern society, with an apocalyptic culmination in the dark night of our nihilism. This is truly new philosophical and theological thinking, and one with deep consequences for all of us.
