Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description
This is the first dictionary of symbols to be based on literature, rather than "universal" pyschological archetypes, myths or esoterica. Michael Ferber has assembled nearly two hundred main entries clearly explaining and illustrating the literary symbols that we all encounter (such as swan, rose, moon, gold), along with hundreds of cross-references and quotations. The dictionary concentrates on English literature, but its entries range widely from the Bible and classical authors to the twentieth century, taking in American and European literatures. Its informed style and rich references will make this book an essential tool not only for literary and classical scholars, but for all students of literature.

Great reference for students.......2006-06-21
As a professor, I have found this book to be very helpful for my students. Let's face it, we all have to start learning someplace, and to have this guide to help that process along is a wonderful bonus. It isn't meant to be encyclopaedic--it's just meant as a decent guide. If you are just beginning to learn literary analysis and haven't quite figured out what all of those silly symbols mean and just who made this stuff up, anyway, this is a perfect book to help you along.
First of its kind, but still downright mediocre........2001-06-28
Not nearly comprehensive enough to be a definitive reference, more of a student's guide. Strongest on Romantic and Biblical literature. More coverage on how traditional symbols are manipulated and ironized in modern and contemporary fiction would also have been helpful. Not particularly helpful for medieval or Elizabethan literature.

Great Dictionary Designed for the Hebrew Speaker.......2007-10-03
This is a great volume. Very contemporary, explaining most of the contemporary, as well as the more traditional, Hebrew words and phrases. The only drawback, from my perspective, is that it was clearly designed for the Hebrew speaker wishing to learn English, rather than for the English speaker wishing to learn Hebrew. This is evident by the fact that the English to Hebrew portion is lacking vowel points (not a problem for the Hebrew speaker). Vowel points are present in the Hebrew to English portion, and this is a help. Unfortunately, not every Hebrew expression in the English to Hebrew portion has an exact match in the Hebrew to English portion, so an English speaker might struggle knowing precisely how to pronounce some of the Hebrew words/phrases he encounters in the English to Hebrew section.
Other than this minor complaint, I've found this volume to be excellent. Only one other small gripe: I find my 53 year old eyes needing to use a magnifying glass at times to see the vowel points clearly!
best choice of compact Hebrew dictionaries.......2007-09-29
Comprehensive and easy to use. Good for the beginner in Hebrew language study. But it is just a dictionary, does not have grammar or pronunciation guides for Hebrew. It may be more intended for Hebrew speakers learning English, but if what you want is a reasonably compact dictionary that works both ways (Hebrew-English and English-Hebrew) this one is the best I've seen.
English0Hebrew Hebrew-English Dictionary.......2007-08-01
Great for us who don't know our Hebrew as well as we would like to know.
However, the printing needs to be a bit larger for some of our eyes.
Blessing on your paths...
Streamlined, Compact, Useful.......2004-04-29
I recently decided to attempt a modern Hebrew novel, although my Hebrew has become quite rusty. To my dismay, my old Hebrew-English Dictionary was not very helpful. So I ordered this one. It was a pleasant surprise. Within minutes I was moving right along, looking up the key words I needed with ease.
While Hebrew is the language of the Hebrew Bible, it is also a lively and rapidly evolving modern language. Like other modern languages it is constantly generating new words, new meanings, new slang, and new loan-words. The Zilberman dictionary addresses these new developments in a practical, down-to-earth way.
This is not a scholarly or academic dictionary. There are no etymologies, no learned dissertations, just simple, practical modern definitions. Hebrew words are spelled using the "full" spelling of i, o, and u, now favored in Israel, and are listed as they are spelled, not by the underlying root word. This makes it easy to look up words even with a limited knowledge of Hebrew.
This dictionary is nicely laid out, with attractive type faces. It is easy to read and contains a good range of contemporary and slang expressions. For quick, practical access to modern Hebrew writing I recommend this book highly. Reviewed by Louis N. Gruber

Fun and Educational!.......2005-12-10
We had an exchange student in our home last year and I bought her this book. We had a lot of fun with it. Her English was pretty good, but these types of expressions always confused her. Then, we would laugh because in trying to explain one "idiom" to her, we would end up using another in the explanation.....and so on- we never realized just how much we use these little sayings in our everyday speech! This little book came in handy- now, I am buying another for my new sister-in-law who is from the Phillipines. Check it out- it's a small, simple book, but worth it for sheer entertainment!

Customer Reviews:
Excellent guide to the field.......2007-04-20
Over the past few years, Oxford University Press has continued to develop its line of excellent reference works, revising older volumes and adding new subjects. The latest edition of "The Oxford Dictionary of Art" carries on that tradition.
The guide offers to the general reader an excellent grounding in the facts and philosophies that underlie the media. The entries cover artists, movements, museums (with addresses and websites), materials and, in the back, a chronology listing key works and when they were completed.
While it sometimes falls into the thicket of scholarly jibber-jabber -- and one should recognize the possibility exists while trying to describe visual art using only words, in a book which contains no pictures -- the dictionary is even-handed in describing the critical reaction to a work. With its wide range of descriptions, both geographically and chronologically, this revised guide allows armchair art appreciators to brush up on their learning.
Handy and useful articles on art terms and artist bios.......2004-10-07
This is a very handy and informative dictionary of terms you will likely encounter in reading about painting and sculpture. If you think of the definitions as short articles on a topic you will be closer to the mark. There are also many short biographies of important historical artists. One of the nice conventions is an asterisk before terms used in the articles that are also themselves the subject of articles.
There are no illustrations, plates, or diagrams in the book. However, there is a short foreword and an introduction.
All in all, this is quite a useful handbook and I use it with some frequency.

Customer Reviews:
A very good phrase book.......2003-04-11
In short, I use many phrase books for different languages, and this one was very good and worth the price.
A pretty decent phrasebook for those pressed for time.......2001-10-28
This pithy phrasebook is ideal for someone who just needs to get by in Dutch. Dutch is not a particularly difficult language for English speakers, so that helps. Other than tourist oriented sentences and an index, the only other material is a table that explicates pronounciation. Again, no big deal here. Pretty much anything a tourist might need to say is here.
The only things that might make it better would be a crash course on conjugating verbs, and a glossary at the back for supplementary vocabulary.

Excellent Hebrew to English dictionary.......2007-01-09
This is the only dictionary i use to look up Hebrew words. it is extensive and very portable and because it doesn't contain english to hebrew making it much thinner i also find flipping through it to find words is easier and faster than the bigger bulkier dictionaries. I have used it for several years now and needed a new one when i couldn't find my old one (since found).

Book Description
"A" is for A la Carte Real Estate Service--transactions rendered one at a time instead of a commission-based, full service relationship. "Z" is for Zero Rate Loan, a loan with a large down payment and the balance to be paid in equal payments over a short period of time, with no interest charged. (Usually offered by an eager seller.) These terms, and everything in between, are found in this handy, easy-to-use dictionary, which defines all you need to know, from Appraisals to Zoning. It contains more than 2,000 words and concepts, all simply defined and with illustrations, charts, and graphs. Whether you're buying your first home, renovating an old one, or negotiating a purchase of investment property, this essential reference can help you simplify the complex terms and legalese that you'll find in every aspect of owning real estate.
Lisa Holton was formerly a business editor at the Chicago Sun-Times.

Essential Dictionary of Real Estate.......2006-03-18
Useful book, especially when I'm stuck for an understandable definition of a real estate term. Some of the definitions are different than those given in the real estate class I'm taking. Then again, some terms have more than one definition, and both are correct. Not state-specific. This is for national.
reluctant buyer.......2003-11-03
as a first time property buyer i was getting bogged down in a lack of language skills. Nothing meant what I thought it did. The Essential Dictionary of Real Estate cleared that up for me and I was able to procede with confidence
