Book Description
Filled with updated research and findings, the Eighth Edition of Schultz and Schultz's THEORIES OF PERSONALITY gives students a clear and cogent introduction to this dynamic field. Organized by theory, this popular text discusses major theorists who represent psychoanalytic, neopsychoanalytic, life-span, trait, humanistic, cognitive, behavioral, and social-learning approaches, while demonstrating the influence of events in theorists' personal and professional lives on the development of these theories. The book also explores the ways in which race, gender, and cultural issues play a part in the study of personality and in personality assessment, and includes numerous examples, tables, and figures that further enhance students' understanding of the content. The final chapter, "Personality in Perspective," integrates topics explored in previous chapters and suggests conclusions that can be drawn from the many theorists' work.

Five Stars for Theories of Personality!.......2007-07-20
Schultz & Schultz's *Theories of Personality* is incredibly well written, concise, and a pleasure to read. The information is presented in a way that is both in-depth and easy to understand. This text provides background information on theorists, their theoretical contributions, and loads of current research on aspects of each theory. A+ for Schultz & Schultz! Highly recommended for all students of psychology, and all professors of personality!

I really thought this book was helpful. I bought this book to complement another book I had trouble understanding. I finished this book in a couple of days in time to complete a research paper. You can't find many easy reading books like this one.

Sanford Meisner has been called "the theater's best-kept secret," and Sanford Meisner on Acting by Dennis Longwell gives some insight into what techniques the hugely influential drama teacher used in his 50-plus years of work. One of the founding members of the Actors Studio (with Lee Strasberg, Stella Adler, and Harold Clurman), Meisner developed his own special lessons based upon his understandings of the great Russian teacher Stanislavsky. Turning away from the sense-memory exercises common among his colleagues, his training focused instead on a realistic approach to imagination and creativity. Unlike many other educators associated with "the Method," Meisner had little tolerance for self-absorption or striving after strong emotional effect, instead preaching that clarity of purpose and efficient use of the psyche are the actor's greatest tools. Longwell's book follows a class of eight men and eight women through one of Meisner's 15-month courses at New York's Neighborhood Playhouse, with extensive transcripts taken directly from Meisner's notes to the students on the basis of their exercises. With an introduction by director Sydney Pollack, one of the many influential artists who studied with Meisner (the book includes accolades from Maureen Stapleton, Arthur Miller, Gregory Peck, and Eli Wallach), this is an excellent introduction that helps to demystify the work of a great theatrical teacher. --John Longenbaugh
Book Description
This book, written in collaboration with Dennis Longwell, follows an acting class of eight men and eight women for fifteen months, beginning with the most rudimentary exercises and ending with affecting and polished scenes from contemporary American plays. Throughout these pages Meisner is delight--always empathizing with his students and urging them onward, provoking emotion, laughter, and growing technical mastery from his charges. With an introduction by Sydney Pollack, director of "Out of Africa" and "Tootsie," who worked with Meisner for five years.
"This book should be read by anyone who wants to act or even appreciate what acting involves. Like Meisner's way of teaching, it is the straight goods."--Arthur Miller
"If there is a key to good acting, this one is it, above all others. Actors, young and not so young, will find inspiration and excitement in this book."--Gregory Peck
Customer Reviews:
a masterpiece..........2007-03-06
Mr. Meisner's book should be in your collection if you are a serious student..on the Mt Rushmore of acting teachers he would be right up there with Hagen, Adler, Stanislavsky and Strasberg. Meisner goes beyond the 'method' to what are the greatest tools you can bring to any performance...listen and react...listen and react..if you master the first the reaction will come naturally..but the first is the most difficult for any beginning actor..you might think you're listening but chances are you're not..
A Great View of Meisner Acting.......2007-02-24
Sanford Meisner shared some very cool ideas on the theatre, and a contrast to Stella Adler's talkative nature.
They basically believe the same thing, but go about it in completely different ways. For a stage performer , and in a different way, any artist, this book is one of the many paths to a deeper and richer manifestation of your craft.
A great read indeed.
Meisner On Acting Review.......2007-01-10
This is different from other acting books in that the reader learns the technique through following the process of students in thier first year with Meisner. He never gives any direct, step-by-step, this-is-how-we-learn-to-act instruction. You have to be patient enough to follow the story and mine the diamonds for yourself. I found a few useful tidbits to add to my technique, but many of Meisner's tools don't work for me, for I'm an Adler girl at heart; however, I have also found it useful to understand the process of my colleagues who use Meisner's technique.
great book.......2007-01-10
I bought this book at a time when I bought a lot of other, more recently written, books on theater. The books were by Anne Bogart and others who wrote about techniques that are not the Method. I thought that I would get a Meisner book because I thought it would be good to get to know some of the history of acting... and Meisner was certainly important historically. I saw this book as a sort of "eat your vegetables". So, I left it for the last book of the bunch that I read...... and it turned out to be WONDERFUL!
This book is INCREDIBLY not dryly written. It is SO interesting to read. It is written as a series of reports on a class that Meisner was teaching, so you get to follow along and learn the Method with his class and see where Meisner is coming from on his beliefs on the Method. The writing style is really interesting and easy to read because Meisner's speech is really interesting.
This book is WONDERFUL!
A Free Meisner Class with the Man Himself.......2006-12-10
This excellent book is an edited transcript of an actual studio class, recorded during one of Sanford Meisner's two-year studio sessions. The reader begins at the beginning and tracks this group through the major phases of training, while getting to read Meisner's own words, and those of his students. If one already knows something about acting techniques and even Meisner, this book deepens and develops that understanding right from the horse's mouth; it charms and provokes myriad thoughts about the art of acting. It's awesome. However, if one is looking for an introduction to the "Meisner Technique" or to any other technique that branches from Stanislavski or The Group Theater, this book is too advanced -- and even somewhat opaque at times -- because it takes for granted certain underlying concepts and vocabulary.

Book Description
A market leader for over 30 years, A HISTORY OF MODERN PSYCHOLOGY has been praised for its comprehensive coverage and biographical approach. Focusing on modern psychology, the text's coverage begins with the late 19th century. The authors personalize the history of psychology not only by presenting biographical information on influential theorists, but also by showing how major events in those theorists' lives have affected their ideas, approaches, and methods. Substantial updates in this edition include discussions of evolutionary psychology, cognitive neuroscience, and positive psychology. The result is a text that is as timely and relevant today as it was when it was first introduced.
Customer Reviews:
Great.......2007-09-21
The book is great. The book gives a great biography of all the psychologists and sometimes that makes learning history more fun. Also, it makes it easier to remember the people.
Great resource.......2007-09-08
Anyone intersted in Psychology should get this book, very informative and if used for a class, it is just what you need.
I use this as a text for my History of Modern Psych class.......2007-01-26
I teach an undergrad course on the history of psychology (Sonoma State), and I've found this book to be clear and readable. My students tend to like it and find the pleasantly informative tone and highlighted information to be useful. This book has gone through several editions as the authors build in updates. They do a fine job of making what is usually very dry material accessible to students. A recent inclusion discusses evolutionary psychology. InfoTrak allows students to look up information online, and the book is filled with useful web sites for further study. Some of the misconceptions about Freud have been corrected (e.g., the false story about Breuer running away from Anna O), although the role of Pierre Janet in the development of a fully dynamic psychology has remained largely unexplored since Ellenberger's work in the seventies.
Two suggestions for future editions: 1. Include more from the therapy side of the psychological house. The book is heavily weighted toward the experimental side: the tradition from Wundt, Titchener, etc. onward, although it does include material about psychoanalysis. Wundt could use some filling out--he did much more than introspect. 2. The Jung section needs reworking. Jung's theories about the collective unconscious have nothing to do with an ancestral inheritance, for example, and people have been calling him a "mystic" for a century despite all his hard empirical work and his being known early on as an experimental psychiatrist (physicians came to Switzerland from all over the world to learn his association test method). His attempts to study of sacred experience come out of a rich tradition that includes William James and Gustav Fechner.
Nice Overview of Psychology's Past, Present, and Future.......2005-12-17
This book was used for one of my classes this past fall. It is very readable, and all of the names that you learn in psych classes actually become people, characters in the development of this ever-broadening field. I thought it was a great start to get psychology students more interested in the people who came before them.
History source of psychology .......2005-09-23
We are using this book in our class. I do think it is a great book compared to others I have read. I like that they filter through and supply just facts. If you need to know how psychology came about and who attributed to it, this is an excellent source to read. I can say there are times its hard for me to put down the book, then other areas seem to be hard to grasp. Over all the book is a great reference and started book in the history of psychology

This book is wonderful!.......2007-09-30
If you teach children's yoga or want to begin yoga with your children at home then this book is the one to buy. I have structured my class using the recommendations that Sydney Solis gives in the book with warmups and centerings, etc... I have also used all the stories in the book and have went on to use other stories and folk tales I personally enjoy incorporating yoga as I tell the story. My yoga students and my own children thoroughly enjoy each class I teach and I appreciate Storytime Yoga in helping me get started.
WONDERFUL TEACHING TOOL.......2007-07-27
If you teach yoga to children this book is a great tool for you to have.
I got alot of ideas from reading this book. I have been teaching children yoga for about 2 years and was running out of new fun ways to keep the children excited about coming to class. Or maybe I was not getting excited about the classes anymore, this gave the children and myself new excitment exploring yoga through story.
Best Children's Yoga book.......2007-01-20
I teach yoga to children and have found this book to be the most informative and full of the most creative ideas. Highly recommended.
Must have book for Children's Yoga teachers.......2007-01-05
Take a magic carpet ride with Sydney Solis as she instructs the novice and seasoned yoga teacher in ways to engage children's imagination with the practice of asanas. The tone of the book is Spiritual with just enough levity to make it fun. The collection of stories are simple, mythylogical and easy to adapt to your own classes. Sydney Solis is a generous writer with a big heart. You will not regret buying this book.
Highly Recommended.......2006-11-04
There are more and more yoga books for children being produced now...which is great ( I have many of them). I recently purchased this book and must say that this book is special. It gives great ideas for story telling, meditations, breathing techniques, songs, asanas, warm ups and games, as well as including several stories you can also tell. I also liked that fact that it gives tips on how to teach yoga philisophies simply to children (love, peace, patience, respect, kindness, etc). This is a truly great book! Highly recommended if you want to teach yoga to children and stay true to the purpose of yoga!

Customer Reviews:
Very Useful and Informative.......2003-11-14
Review: This book attempts to describe the major fields in industrial/organizational psychology. For a textbook designed for use in an introductory-level course, it does its job fairly well.
This book is very easy to use, and utilizes most of the more common aids to direct the reader to the most-salient information in each chapter, such as using bold-face for definitions and breaking the chapter up into several sections. It also provides a tremendous amount of additional information used to strengthen and support what is presented in each chapter. Most of this work is accomplished using the sides of each page, which is common in most current textbooks. The sheer number of visual aids used throughout the book is impressive, and despite the frequency with which they are used, they are usually helpful.
The single greatest fault that I can raise with this textbook is that, quite simply, the scope is so broad. Its purpose is to present the reader with a brief exposure to each of the major fields in I-O Psychology, and it succeeds in doing this. However, many of the chapters feel a little too general, especially towards the end of the book, when the authors are still presenting more subsets of I-O Psychology. Several chapters are used in the front of the book to give the reader a working terminology for the book and a basic theoretical framework needed to better understand some of the more difficult concepts in this field. Since the book never moves beyond an introduction to all these subsets of I-O Psychology, however, it seems as if some of this information could be trimmed down so that more depth could be achieved in some of the later chapters. Of course, the danger with this approach might be that the book would move beyond the purpose for which it was intended.
For the most part, this is a well-constructed, informative textbook, and serves to introduce its readers to I-O Psychology. The chapters flow very well, and the textbook is broken down nicely so that the reader is never overwhelmed with too much information at one sitting. Some chapters are more effective than others, and some of the introductory chapters seem a bit unnecessary, but those are essentially the book's only failings.
This is a good textbook that I would recommend to anyone looking for information on I-O Psychology. At the very least, it will help readers determine where their true interest is in this field and provide them with a good working vocabulary as well.

Book Description
This fully updated and dramatically expanded edition will allow family physicians and specialists to fully understand not only what they need to do, but also why. New to this edition-over half the book-are discussions of the clinical guidelines for selecting patients for densitometry measurements, various questionnaires and indices that have been developed to help patients identify themselves as candidates for bone mass measurements, and specific densitometry applications of diagnosis, fracture risk prediction, and monitoring changes in bone density. Updated material includes an expanded review of the effects of diseases and drugs on bone density, new standardization formulas for the hip subregions and forearm, statistical devices necessary to "test the test," and guidance on how to do a short-term precision study and apply the result to clinical practice. An accompanying CD-ROM contains a Precision Calculator, a Statistical Confidence Calculator for Measured Change in BMD, OST Nomograms, a Patient Risk Factor Questionnaire, and a CME review, which, if successfully completed, can lead to 30 hours of AMA Category I continuing education credit.
Customer Reviews:
Good overview with details and case descriptions.......2003-05-07
This book is a good reference as well as learning tool. It includes many glossy prints of actual bone density scans with descriptions and instructions for interpretation. It has a good section on identifying artifacts and evaluating the adequacy of the scans. There's not much description of secondary causes of osteoporosis but that information can be obtained elsewhere. In all, a good learning and reference book, esp. for physicians.
The Clinical Bible for Osteoporosis.......2000-09-10
This is the single most important resourse that any physician performing DEXA scans should have in his or her library. It is a reference used frequently and is a great review of the state of the art of bone density. Two copies are useful, if the first is misplaced. A must read for physicians starting the bone densitometry business.

Customer Reviews:
We all laughed!.......2007-08-13
This book had me, my teenaged daughter, my sisters and even my husband in stitches! This is a fun gift for any woman you know who's turning "that age".
Great fun!.......2007-04-10
This book is the perfect gift for the mature woman with a sense of humor. The "products" are creative and the models are real-life middle aged women who demo the items with a degree of sincerity that just adds to the funniness. After my sister sent me a copy for my 50th birthday, I had to buy more in bulk for my friends. Written by a woman who has truly lived through the change of life! Highly, highly recommend - but be sure to read it in a place where you can laugh out loud.
Victoria's Rejects Review.......2007-03-10
This is perfect for any woman going through or approaching mid-life! It is so witty and funny! I shared it with the women at work and we roared! That's why I bought 5 more of Victoria's Rejects - so I could keep my own and the others could have their own copy....It's a hoot!
victoria's rejects.......2007-01-06
Very funny, It's all about making fun of aging as a woman. Bought this for my boss' 50th. She said I was fired! She shared it with a bunch of ladies at work, everyone loved it and asked where I got it. Huge hit, well worth the $$$
Laugh out loud funny!.......2006-03-29
I received this book as a birthday gift-I won't disclose my age but let's just say it's over 45. I laughed so much when i read it that I was actually glad to be a Victoria Reject! A great gift for someone who likes to laugh and can laugh at herself.
