Very little real-world info........2005-07-06
I did at times like the "war stories" written by the authors and being former Navy, I thought I would be able to carry over some of the teachings into the fire service. This books tried to allow a SEAL to share his war stories to a business section of the population. I had very little that can be carried over and wasn't written very well at all. Maybe if the format of the book was done different it might have had an easier time hitting it's point. It was a very hard read too.
Too obvious.......2005-05-06
This stuff is all pretty obvious and can be learned anywhere, not just in the environment of a SEAL team. We could have called this "Leadership Lessons of the Plastic Injection Molding Production Supervisors" or "Leadership Lessons of the Rental Car Management Trainees." Seriously. The SEAL stories were nice, but I was expecting some powerful lessons learned under the stressful conditions of special operations combat. The "how many officers does it take to put up a tent" example wasn't exactly the impactful example that I was looking for. I, too, was a naval officer and could generate better illustrations of these leadership and management skills from my mundane times on a surface ship. No need to slap the SEAL trident on the cover, though I guess it would sell more books.
Must read for aspiring leaders. .......2005-03-01
This book is the most accessible leadership book i've read recently. It is presented as a case by case basis (The Misson) with lessons learned from it (The Take Away), albeit in a corny way.
Those who are military buffs will surely enjoy this book, however, the corporate world is a far different outfit. The best example from the book would be the case where the officers of the same rank were placed together to pitch a tent in the dark. Due to that, everyone was barking orders to each other in order to stand out and appear superior.
It is almost impossible to reprimand your subordinates without risking a resignation and the balance between enforcing your right as a superior and eliciting favours is a fine line. My philosophy of leadership is fairly simple. Lay down the expectations from day one, and hire those who can accept those expectations, never force someone to do something that they are not willing to do (Chapter 4, Lesson 1). You cannot trim down your troops through attrition in the corporate organization (no boot camps here) by piling so much work that your employees quit and only the best remain. There's just not enough time and not enough people to complete any project implementation. Only a handful of organizations can do that ie. Nordstrom via psychological preasure rather than physical.
Chapter 3 focuses on building leadership, while chapter 4 focuses on being a grunt. 2 sides of the coin which are highly important. In summary, a must read. (Highly recommend, Built to Last)
SEAL examples make this book standout.......2004-08-09
This book clearly sets itself apart from othe management books with its many Navy Seal examples and how they can be applied to business world situations. Those who have any interest in how the military functions will enjoy Leadership Lessons.
Insightful!.......2004-06-12
If you've declared war on your company's lackluster performance, this book will help you launch an all-out assault. Leadership Lessons of the Navy Seals demonstrates through the experiences of this elite military unit of Sea, Air and Land commandos that combat lessons can apply to the corporate world. The book provides examples of SEAL tactics and missions, along with their corporate applications, particularly in strong team building. Authors Jeff Cannon and Lt. Cmdr. Jon Cannon combine their experience in business and the U.S. Navy in a no-nonsense, practical guide. They zero in on setting goals and commanding your troops with deadly accuracy. While their problem-solving text gets straight to the point, it isn't novel and they repeat lessons under different titles. The book is a laundry list, a useful approach in allowing you to choose what you need. We found that the Cannons fire off a good how-to book for corporate strategists who want to develop battle plans for improving their teams and organizations.

Not the best book out there!.......2007-08-11
Save your money, just do pushups, pullups, situps, and run or swim. You may enjoy the sections on the history of the Seals but over all the book was just the above mentioned exercises with workouts that changed the order of the exercises around on different days. I'm 50 years old and the workouts were not very tough at all.
Sorry to be negative on this review, but there just wasn't much to the book that you probably weren't already doing if you included body weight exercises into your normal workout regime.
Should have bought a dvd.......2005-09-19
Great work out, but its to darn hard to read the words, look at the pictures and do the stuff. Next time its a DVD
No nonsense.......2005-01-25
This is a good book for calisthenics and stretching exercises. The descriptions are easy to follow, and every exercise is illustrated with several photographs plus (what I really like) a drawing showing the muscles used in the exercise. Is it well known that stretching and certain exercises such as squats can be dangerous if done improperly. Perhaps the best feature of this book is that SPECIFIC warnings are given for a lot of these exercises about the dangers involved. I have already modified my strength training routine based on the advice given in this book. It is commendable that a book of this sort avoids "no pain, no gain" stupidities, and instead offers exercises that are founded on sound physiological grounds.
The tough get going..........2004-07-13
Navy SEALs (Team members of BUD/S which stands for Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL) are a group whose training physically and mentally is tough, demanding, and requires ability far above that of most men. Most men will quit before passing through the months of before being permitted to wear the SEAL insignia. For those who do make it through they are extremely skilled and have a right to be very proud.
This book is not an official workout programme or an official Navy SEAL document. However the man who put it together, Commander Master Chief Dennis C. Chalker, is a SEAL. Now retired, he reminds people that one don't stop being a Seal -- one is a member of the Team until he dies. One of the things that makes BUD/S training so hard is that in addition to being tough every minute he can quit simply by ringing the bell and saying 'I QUIT!' A lot like fitness in real life - you can quit, or you can succeed; it is up to you.
In this book there is a little bit here and there about the history of the Navy SEALs. Lots of their training is secret, and much of their routine is kept from public eyes because of the nature of their missions. BUD/S training is heavy on running and heavy on swimming. Most of the book is pretty standard exercise manual content, concentrating on particular exercises that are used in training. They have motivational quotes from SEALs throughout the text.
Warm-ups and Cool-downs
Warm-ups and cool-downs concentrate on big movements that involve large muscle groups, just to get the body tuned up and blood and oxygen flowing through the muscles. It also gets the heart pumping more to be ready for the coming exercise. These exercises also include stretches that limber up the muscles.
Stretches are often the most overlooked part of an exercise routine, but just from simply counting the pages in this book you can see the importance it should have. There are 40 pages of stretching exercises, and 60 pages of basic calisthenics, which is what people think of when they think of exercise.
One good thing about the descriptions of the stretches and exercises in this book is that they list advantages and disadvantages of the exercise, and warnings. What will this exercise help you do? What are the problems in doing it? What should you be warned about? For example, with the Achilles stretch, the warning is to not overdo it by overstretch, because that is easy to do.
Calisthenics
Calisthenics are the core of fitness programmes for most of the military, and that includes BUD/S. One thing that is needed is a place to do pull-ups.
Free Weight Training
This book shows very basic weight training exercises. This is not a body-builder book that will concentrate on each individual muscle to maximize each one, but it does concentrate on overall strength building. SEALs need to be strong, not necessarily good looking.
Running and Swimming
This book does not give much detail about these. There are just three pages on running and five pages on swimming. Swimming in BUD/S usually involves equipment and scuba kinds of events so it is difficult for the person at home to do these. For swimming, BUD/S training prefers the basic side-stroke. For running, it gives some distances and advice, but that's about it for running. One thing that anyone who really wants a taste of BUD/S training is to do sand running in boots. Don't try this without being in good shape.
Workout Schedules
This small section shows just how tough the training is. It starts out easy enough - low reps and low number of sets for basic exercises like push-ups, sit-ups and pull-ups, not too much running or swimming, but within a matter of weeks the dedicated are pulling 20 sets of 25 sit-ups (and yes, the math makes that 500 sit-ups) and running 13 miles a week at a fast pace and more pull-ups than anyone would ever think possible!
Airborne, Nutrition, Team, Motivation
These small pieces at the end talk about the addition stuff that SEALs do. One advantage of working out so hard is that one can eat almost anything and still lose weight! SEALs during some weeks of training are shoveling in up to 6000 calories a day and still dropping weight. So SEAL nutrition isn't really what is called for in civilian life certainly. BUD/S graduates attend Basic Army Airborne School at Ft. Benning Georgia for basic parachuting, and this is talked about.
This is a tough book, and it is demanding. Because of that, it might actually be discouraging to an extent for people who can never reach the level of doing all that SEALs do. But don't let that discourage you - do your best, and this book will help.
Very Good Book.......2004-07-10
This is great book to have if you want to get fit but dont have a gym or weights. There are pictures of all the excercises.
The book has the Seal workouts phase 1& 2 and also phase 3 which is very tough. There is also a section about weight training if you want to add that in as well although most of these workouts centre around Pull-ups, push-ups and sit- ups and running. Nutrition is covered ,but not as well as i would like so thats why i give the book only 4 stars..but apart from that i would rate this book highly.

Book Description
"Fractions of a second in time.
What amazing violence can be meted out in
the blink of an eye."
In the mid-nineteen sixties, Harry Constance made a life-altering journey that led him out of Texas and into the jungles of Vietnam. As a young naval officer, he went from UDT training to the U.S. Navy's newly formed SEAL Team Two, and then straight into furious action. By 1970, he was already the veteran of three hundred combat missions and the recipient of thirty-two military citations, including three Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.
Good To Go is Constance's powerful, firsthand account of his three tours of duty as a member of America's most elite, razor-sharp stealth fighting force. It is a breathtaking memoir of harrowing missions and covert special-ops -- from the floodplains of the Mekong Delta to the beaches of the South China Sea -- that places the reader in the center of bloody ambushes and devastating firefights. But his extraordinary adventure goes even farther -- beyond 'Nam -- as we accompany Constance and the SEALs on astonishing missions to some of the world's most dangerous hot-spots . . . and experience close-up the courage, dedication, and unparalleled skill that made the U.S. Navy SEALs legendary.
Includes 8 Pages of SEAL Team Action Photos!

3 Amigos.......2007-07-04
Curtis M."Butch" Ashton was my uncle. Youngest of four bothers on my fathers side. Before joining the Navy he lived with us. It was like having an instant big bother that I idolized. I was just a small boy when he went off to Vietnam not yet really old enough to understand the dangers of war until that night in Dec. 1969 when my mother told me Butch was dead. Butch's metals and burial flag are proudly on display in my home today. I have two teenage sons of my own now and we all enjoyed reading/sharing "Good To Go".
Thank you Harry for sharing with us a part of his life with you and the Seals in Vietnam.

What a Journey.......2007-06-09
This is a thoroughly enjoyable, fast paced read. It is an incredible story that races through a 20 year Navy career but is able to keep it's main focus on the Vietnam tours. Very exciting and very well written. Mr. Constance deserves his medals.
Liar or merely a poor writer?.......2007-03-06
I had high hopes for this book, having enjoyed Marcinko's various highly entertaining forays (most, after "Rogue Warrior" clearly labeled as "fiction") and "Patches" Watson's book, but I had misgivings about this from page one. Evidently, Harry's neighbor (the "as told to") was fascinated with Constance's war stories (and, really, who wouldn't be?), interviewed him and changed the tall tales to the first-person perspective. I found the technique clunky and obvious whenever the "real" writer's voice conflicted with the tales of derring-do (e.g., misidentifying the M-203 grenade launcher, calling it a ".two-oh-three, as though that was the launcher's caliber, or something, clearly shows the writer slavishly scribbling down as much of the stories as he could and doing little fact checking).
Now let's face it, anybody who had the balls to not only volunteer for membership in an elite group and who survived multiple tours in Vietnam is worthy of respect, but I actually wasn't terribly surprised to see that Constance's many accusation leveled at SEAL teammate Charlie Watson were untrue and he was forced to apologize in court (and pay nearly half a million dollars in damages). Much of the tone of the book seems to come from a sour-grapes guy with some scores to settle against former friends, colleagues and lovers. It's a shame that the obvious fraud and mean-spirited tone here taints the real-life Vietnam SEAL team heroics.
A very interesting read........2007-02-02
My cousin, Curtis Morris Ashton, "Butch" is what family called him or "Lil" Ashton is what the team called him, was deployed with SEAL team 7 and then 2. Although I never was able to meet him, because we lived in Arizona and his side of the family in Texas, it allowed me to get a glimpse of who he was and some of his personality. He is still remembered and missed! Neil Ashton
The Life and Times of a Decorated Member of The US Navy's Elite Seal Team Two.......2006-03-04
In Good to Go by Harry Constance and Randall Fuerst, the authors give first hand insight on the life of a military man. Good to Go follows Harry as he goes through many trials and tribulations. From a cheating wife to threats of losing all his military rank, he must try to salvage his name and save his pride.
The authors do an excellent job of making the events seem real almost as if we can feel the disappointment or disbelief. Although the book uses a lot of military slang, it is still a very easy read. I would recommend Good to Go to anyone, it's not just another war novel; it's more.

Book Description
Captain Robert Gormly served 29 years as a Navy SEAL, the United States's elite military force, where he undertook the most dangerous missions in the history of the nation. Combat Swimmer is an autobiographical account of Capt. Gormly's life as a SEAL: acting as platoon leader in SEAL Team Two in Vietnam, and later as commanding officer of that team; as the executive Officer of UDT-22, and as commanding officer of the legendary SEAL Team Six. This thrilling real-life story takes readers through the fiery life of a man who can literally be called "the best of the best."
Praise for Combat Swimmer:
"Gormly is a warrior for the working day...in a harsh world, it will comfort many to know that men with Gormly's spirit, character, and patriotism, wear this country's uniform." --Publishers Weekly
Customer Reviews:
Three Soldiers' Stories.......2005-06-14
I've never served in the military, but I have great respect for those who follow that kind of life. I also have great interest in history, military strategy and tactics, and behavior in combat situations. I therefore checked out the following special-forces-related books from the library: Rogue Warrior, by Marcinko, Combat Swimmer, by Gormly, and Inside Delta Force, by Haney.
Marcinko's book is a classic testosterone-driven, adolescent Hollywood adventure story. I mean that in a (mostly) good way. The author's focus is on himself, on his grand escapades, and his ability to destroy his enemies, whether at war or in the chain of command. It makes for a fun read, although I never knew how much Marcinko might be inflating his exploits.
Gormly is in many ways the anti-Marcinko. Of course they knew each other, and Gormly goes into some detail about inheriting Marcinko's SEAL team and getting the house back in order. But more than that, Marcinko represents the unihibited ego, breaking all the rules and doing whatever he wants. Gormly is all about responsibility and chain of command. Don't get me wrong; he's not at all boring, but definitely comes off as a stiffer sort of character. I'd rather work for Gormly (more job security; less likely to get killed unexpectedly) but I'd rather have a beer with Marcinko (though too much of that, and you probably increase your chances of getting killed unexpectedly).
Haney strikes somewhat of a balance. He's more individualistic than Gormly, but more disciplined than Marcinko. He's also the best writer of the three, with a good mix of gritty reality and genuine philosophical reflection. That's probably why I liked his book the best. Marcinko's book is a fun ride, like a blockbuster action movie, but in the end didn't leave me with much to think about. After reading Gormly's book, I admired the man a great deal but didn't particularly like him. Haney provides all the adventure but he's clearly more of a thinker than the other two, and I can imagine a long, fascinating evening's conversation over a bottle of scotch.
I suspect that you would find all three types of individuals (and many more) in the military, and you probably need all of them to get the job done. All three memoirs are highly entertaining and quick reads. Which you prefer probably depends to some extent on your own personality.
Why everyone thinks that NAVY SEAL is the best.......2005-06-09
<
>
How do you know that Seal is the best? What the hell you mean by universally recognized? And beleive me you're not the first person who assumes that navy seal to be the best special operation force. Do you know that 80% of Seals never see combat in their career? The real thing doesn't look anything close like people's perception.
Let's just say that I've been an infantriman for a little while and I'll admit that BUD training is very hard, but from a PURE PHYSICAL ASPECT, Spetsnaz is probably the hardest and the training can last up to five years. In both Iraq and Afghanistan, I've worked with Seals and Special Forces, and trust me, the Rambo aura people have about them is just what it is - an aura. They're highly trained individuals that can undertake very dificult missions that conventional force can't, but they're no supermen.
The British has among the finest and most elite special operations forces in the World, the SAS and SBS. They set the standard for special operations. And don't even start with the Israelis. When it come to low intensity warfare, their troops and special forces are more combat experience dthan anybody in the World.
Within the U.S armed Forces, the most elite special operations goup, Delta Force, is based on the SAS model. Delta has the lowest qualification rate than anybody in the U.S Armed Forces and Delta recruits from all branches of the military, including other special operations.
I think that one of the reasons that people think that navy seal is the best is because of good PR. I mean navy seal is the most popular of all the U.S special operations. More movies and documentaries have been made about navy seal than any other group. When was the last time anybody has seen a documentary about Delta Force Training. Part of your statement is right though. There's really a mystic about Navy Seal, but that doesn't make them the best. Hell, no combat group has been more mystified and romanticied than the French Foreign Legion. It's really a great fighting force, but that doesn't make them the best.
I don't want to take away anything from the frogmen, but people has to stop that better than anybody view they have of the Seal. They're exceptional soldiers with exceptional skills but the world doesn't revolve around them. They excel and fail just like everybody else.
P.S: By the way, this was a great book. I truly enjoy it.
Great Memoir.......2005-05-30
Bob Gormly wrote a great book on his 30 year experiences as a Navy SEAL. He recounts how he passed the most gruelling toughest training in the world to be a SEAL. His 2 tours of duty in Vietnam are filled with pulse pounding action. He then led the most elite of SEAL's, SEAL team 6, into combat in Grenada. I really liked his discussion of Richard Marcinko the convicted felon who founded six and left it's reputation tarnished. This is a great book for those interested in SEALs or Special Operations Forces. Thanks Bob for this great memoir.
"a rollicking, good, and quick read".......2004-09-08
There's a definite mystique unique to Navy SEALs. The Marine's Force Recon and the Air Force's PJs don't have it. US Army Rangers have a part of it, but only within the military community. It is a universally recognized fact that SEALs are King Badasses. The Britons know this, as do the Israelis, Russians, Congolese and everyone else.
(Ret.) Captain Robert Gormly's "Combat Swimmer: Memoirs of a Navy SEAL" breaks down this mystique step-by-step without lessening the esteem of SEALs. Combat Swimmer increases it. Gormly himself is in a unique position to deliver this enlightenment. Having joined the SEALs shortly after their creation (or, more accurately, their evolution from UDTs - the Underwater Demolition Teams of top-notch WWII frogmen). Like most books on SEALs, Gormly begins his book with the rigorously infamous training of SEALs wannabes, taking the reader through Hell week. One page reads:
Waddell stormed out of the instructor's hut and yelled "Class, ten hut." We snapped to attention. "Hit the deck." Sixty bodies slammed onto the wet asphalt, IBLs [bulky, heavy inflatable boats] crashing down on top of us. "Lean and rest." Sixty bodies pushed themselves (and the IBLs) up to the beginning position for push-ups: arms extended and locked under your chest, feet straight out behind you. I thought we we going to do push-ups until Instructor Waddell got tired-which might be a long time, since he'd been off all day resting. "Bernie," Blas said, "what are you doing? I'm in charge of this evolution. You can't just come out here and start giving my men orders." "Tom, you're being to easy on these pukes." "Bernie, these guys are tired-they've been working aaaaalll day." As the two instructors went on and on, my arms started quivering. The boat got heavier. And heavier. They did the good-guy-bad-guy routine for what seemed like an hour and was probably no more than three minutes. Finally: "Okay, Tom, I guess you're right. They do look tired. Class, on your feet," roared Instructor Waddell. I pulled my feet up under me, urging my men not to drop the boat. The instructors had already warned us to "take care of your equipment-it will take care of you." We struggled to attention. "Hit the deck, lean and rest," Blais yelled. "I'm in charge of you people, *I* give the orders." And so it went until they got tired. It was great to see the two instructors working in unison. We all appreciated the lesson in teamwork. When they finished playing with us, we hauled ass.
The rest of the book keeps the same fresh tone, making for a very enjoyable read. Gormly talks about his two tours in Vietnam, where the SEALs specialized in "taking the fight to Viet Cong, harassing them beyond the front lines, where they thought they were safe." Interestingly, Gormly notes that the mystique of SEALs worked as much against them as it did in their favor. The North Vietnamese had offered a $10,000 bounty for any SEAL, dead or alive, but Gormly's own superior officers had very little understanding of how make best use of SEAL capabilities. In most cases, they were simply told to kill as many enemies as possible and were given carte blanch to do it. Keeping in standard military memoir format, Gormly does talk a little about what went wrong with the war he fought in, liking Vietnamese situation to fighting with a giant lizard - the tail (soldiers) we kept cutting off (killing) kept growing back (new recruits). What we shouldn've done was lop off the head (concentrate on killing the top generals and political liaisons to China). Gormly finishes with his time in the Pentagon, working to combat drug lords between missions like Urgent Fury (the effort to free US hostages in Grenada) and Gulf War I.
In summation, the book is a rollicking, good, and quick read. Because of it's relative obscurity, it can be found for astounding value (I purchased mine used from Amazon for $1.84). I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed the passage above.
A well written book(planetharmonia@hotmail.com).......2004-08-13
An honest, well-written book. Capt. Gormly was the first CO to lead SEAL TEAM 6 into combat. This is a must read for those interested in the evolution of TEAM 6. A very revealing book! It also answered Numerous questions I had after reading the Rogue Warrior novel, with its numerous vague references, and down right misinformation. Thank you Mr. Gormly for your book and its invaluable information that others will refer to when they want historical truth. Bottom line, Well worth reading!
OH...the chapter concerning the downing of Seawolf 1-5 may have an error. The pilot named Soto was on Seawolf 1-4 that night according to the latest book by Daniel E. Kelly. Anyway, thank you for a valuable book for historians and the ages.

All that you need to know about Socom is there.......2007-01-17
The only downside is that there nothing about Socom fire team bravo 2.
For you SOCOMers.......2007-01-11
Well since I wrote the Mult-player section of the book...I am going to have to give it Five stars! But even though my part is great, the maps alone make up for it. Those were done by my good friend Richard Hunsinger of Generator Studio's. So if you play SOCOM CA or are even thinking about getting it....this is THE book you need to get.
Military opinion on SEAL game.......2007-01-10
I am in the marine corps. I am also stationed in Iraq. Given that, I have more than enough credentials to pick apart just about any shooter game. This one is by far the best game I have played this year. The ability to take three of your best buddies, and not just play death match, but play the game from start to finish is by far the premeire feature. Go get the game, build you a fire team of elite friends and play the F'in game

ASIN: 0760314047 |
Book Description
This is an introduction into what it really means to be a U.S. Navy SEAL in today's U.S. Navy-in the sea, in the air, and on the land. The U.S. Navy's elite specialists are among the most highly trained forces capable of undertaking dangerous missions into enemy territory. Hollenbeck takes you through the relentless twenty-five week training, including 'hell' week, when soldiers are put through five days of training with fewer than 4 hours of sleep.

HOW TO BE A U.S. Navy SEAL - Reveiw.......2004-12-03
This book is about class 228 doing the BUD/S.(Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL). I thought this sounded like a very interesting and imformative book. It was very interesting because it went into detail of what the SEALs do for training, weapons, etc. What I really liked about it is that it went into great detail about what the phases were. The third phase has alot of information on what weapons they train with. The M4, Mk-75 hose charge, Rocket Launcher and C4 explosives sound really cool. I thought that was very informative. Those things are what kept me entertained while I read the book.
Another interesting and very fun part of the book was that there were alot of photos of the SEALs doing their training. That is one of the reasons that I gave this book four stars. Another reason is that it went into detail of what the SEALs had to do to quit the class or keep up with the rest of the team. The other two reasons are that it told me about the guns and explosives they use during training and in the battlefield, and that the days that were harder and easier. Such as, "the only easy day was yesterday"
It sounds very tough to be a navy SEAL but one of the coolest jobs in the world. I would reccomend this book to anyone looking for something good to read or looking for information about a really cool career.
a companion to the Warrior Elite.......2004-03-12
If you're a SEAL fan and have read The Warrior Elite then this is a great companion to the book. It's not a book you read though - this one's all photos and a bit of text. The pictures of SEAL training are the best, actually, I know of NO OTHER book that has as many pics of BUD/S training. You see all the pics of what Dick Couch wrote about in Warrior Elite. Funny thing is that you see the guys from that BUD/S class because their names are written on their clothes but the author makes absolutely no mention of the people in the photos.
Another reviewer said the pics were "old and outdated." What?! They're all the pics that were NOT used in Couch's book and are from one of the latest BUD/S classes, the class that Couch wrote about. Couch's Warrior Elite isn't a picture book - this one is and it's great.
Warrior Elite Reincarnated.......2003-12-13
Very disappointed.
This book appears to have been thrown together very quickly. I read the Warrior Elite and really enjoyed it. My hopes were similar for the latest Couch book about BUD/S. Instead of giving the reader current pictures from BUD/S classes Couch reused pictures from his Warrior Elite book. The pictures are old and outdated.
Worst of all, reading To Be a Navy SEAL gave me an uncomfortable sense of Deja Vu. Reason being most of the text was "cut and pasted" from the Warrior Elite.
Read the Warrior Elite. Don't waste your time and money on this rude afterthought of a project.
Very Interesting.......2003-10-24
Finally, a complete book on Navy SEAL basic training. More than stories from bystanders, this book has pictures of everything a potential SEAL goes through. Somehow, it seems more real this way. Good job by the authors.

waste of money.......2003-12-16
If u wanna waste ur time n money u should definitely buy this guide, if not u r better off with the game manual.
Succeeds In Very Few Areas.......2003-06-02
I bought this guide having been impressed by the Diablo II and Jedi Knight II walk throughs. I will say, that this book is better than having nothing, but not much better.
I agree with the other posters who stated that there are misprints, pieces that are just flat out wrong, and incorrect screen captures. Further, when they did get it right, it seems like the advice was too general - they're just poorly organized. I'd have to re-read sections just to see what they were talking about. You can tell someone rushed to make it to print. Shame of you guys...
I'll give an example of what I mean, in Mission 7, the walk through states (essentially) go through and destroy the munitions dumps first then kill the escaping mercs. However, everytime I did that, I'd never make it to killing them all off - they'd escape at the last minute, thus failing the mission. Very frustrating. So, I did the opposite of what the guide suggested. I killed all the soliders first THEN destroyed the munitions dumps and success!
Don't waste your money - you can probably find better advice for free online.
Info on Missions - Nothing for Online.......2003-02-02
If you want assistance making it through the single player missions, the guide provides a lot of detail in how to get that done. There are a many pages that cover each mission outlining the objectives and hints on how to accomplish each one. Succeeding in each mission is the most detailed part of what's provided in the guide.
As someone already posted, the info on weapons is really just a picture of each one from the game showing the weapon, volume, accuracy, range and fire rate & modes.
Right on the cover of the guide it says "Tips for ONLINE PLAY!". Well, there's not a lot. The last page of the guide (front and back of 1 piece of paper) is where the online tips are. One half of one page tells you how to get online. The rest are just generic hints and nothing to do with specific online maps and strategies for where to go, how to get there, etc.
As you typically go through the single player missions once and likely, assuming you have a broadband connection, play a lot more online with friends (clans), then be warned that you really won't get much, if anything, from this guide book. If you're a SOCOM fanatic, you'll probably want to have it anyway.
An extra copy of instruction manual........2002-11-02
All the strategy in this book is very logic. Something that you will do even if you don't buy this book. I bought this book and play the game without reading it. I stuck only in 2 ocassion and this book help.
All other information is the same with the book that come with the game.
Very good tool.......2002-10-27
This book will provide invaluable help to gamers. It has in depth explanations of each level and has 2 pages of gun info. Another help was the list of voice commands. If you are stuck in this game, the book will always help you to get back on track.

Customer Reviews:
All the information, none of the hype.......2007-07-17
This is a great fitness book. It was written by Navy doctors working for Special Warfare teams (SEALS). The book is thick because it is actually two books in one: the SEAL fitness book + the nutrition book. What I found in the book was great scientific information that a layperson can understand, without all the hype and fluff and self-promotion you find in most fitness books. If you want to know how to lift weights, for example, what the % or RMI is, oxygen uptake, and heart rate and aerobic guidelines, as well as BMI inforamation, and information on biking, swimming, lifting, plyometrics, etc., get this book. This book is better than almost all the other fitness books I have seen in that it is almost 100% science, and 0 % hype. Don't let the "SEAL" thing scare you off, either: this book is for everyone.
Great for fitness classes.......2007-06-18
This book is packed with useful info: explanations of fats, protein, vitamins, minerals, supplements, and includes a lot of great exercises and diagrams of the body. This book could serve as the core curriculum for virtually any fitness or nutrition class.

Book Description
"Throughout training I kept having the thought,
WELL, ALL THEY CAN DO IS KILL ME.
It seemed to help."
SEALs are the world's toughest soldiers. Working in squads and platoons that make up SEAL teams, they are trained in everything from underwater demolition to high-altitude parachute drops. Now John Carl Roat, graduate of Class-29, one of the earliest SEAL training classes, has written the only book devoted to the training of that exclusive warrior force. With unflinching honesty, Roat describes the brutal six-month program that took young men well beyond the endurance limits even of gifted athletes and created warriors who could proudly take their places in the teams. It was a program so demanding that by the end of Hell Week, the third week of the course, the original class of one hundred and thirty-four physically fit young men had been sliced to sixty-two.
After retelling his own class's experience, Roat visits today's SEAL program and reveals how the program has changed over the last thirty-five years to include more classroom training and better and more sophisticated equipment-- without at all lowering the physical demands. SEAL training is still the best, and the toughest, training in the world.
Customer Reviews:
A great story of the early SEAL training days.......2005-12-03
John Roat's book demonstrates the toughness and determination that was required in the early days of SEAL training.
I enjoyed the way that he describes in great detail the training that he went through. It's like you are right there with him.
Also, there are many stories about their "interactions" with their instructors.
I especially appreciated the last chapter in the book where the author describes, by observing the training the candidates currently go through, the differences in training between then and now. The training now has causes less long-term damage to the body, especially to the knees (the duck-walk was a favorite of the instructors back then).
Above all as you read the book you can see his loyalty, after all these years, to his team members.
From The Author.......2004-08-22
This was written for my Classmates and like them it has brought me nothing but joy. The book comes from the heart, theirs and mine. I've been pleased to hear how much help the book was for some in getting through BUD/S. I do love the questions from young men who aspire to become Team Members so feel free to ask. I will do my best to answer.
