Darling and sweet.......2007-06-20
Every book in this series is so adorable. Each one tugs at your heart and captures a true emotion.
Priceless.
Heartwarming.......2007-03-20
Could not put it down. The inherent wisdom in this book amazed me. I bought several copies and gave them to all of my siblings. This book is a true treasure.
Good inspiration for writing mom a thank you note.......2007-03-15
This narrative is full of black and white photographs of animals, most of which are young. The writing is on the generic side for gift books as Greive recounts broad experiences typically shared between mothers and their children not clearly showing what "everything" is. The tone of the writing feels akin to a letter that has been broken up to a sentence or phrase per picture/page, though the enjambment is well distributed offering a poetic feel to each passage. Overall this makes a fine book as a thank you gift but shouldn't be a substitute for a sincere, heartfelt note thanking a mother for her lifelong commitment of love and defining what "everything" really is. In fact, the text is a strong source of inspiration for writing this kind of mother thank you note.
nice, but not very fitting.......2007-01-11
While the pictures were kind of cute and the message endearing, there were many parts of it that did not really realte to my relationship with my mother. Some parts are too specific to the author's relationship with his mother so that it may not make sense if you were to give it to your mother.
Stunning Animal Photography.......2006-12-14
Any of Greive's books are good for gifts. His photographs really match the literature beneath each photo and will make one feel more human again and able to recall what's really important in life.

Book Description
The letters Joseph War, one of the elite Marine Scout Snipers, wrote home reveal a side of the Vietnam war seldom seen. Whether under nigthly mortar attack in An Hoa, with a Marine company in the bullet-scarred jungle, on secret missions to Laos, or on dangerous two-man hunter-kills, Ward lived the war in a way few men did. And he fought the enemy as few men did--up close and personal.

The real Vietnam War.......2007-06-24
Sometimes, it takes time to pass before the real stories about a war come to light. Joseph T. Ward does an outstanding job of telling his story as he develops into a Marine Corps Sniper and survives his tour of duty in Vietnam 1969-1970.
This book is a great read.
Apart from the courage this man showed and his dedication to the Marine Corps, the continued mention of finding VC with care and medical packages from "friends of Berkley California" was enlightening--and from Ward's point of view--disgusting. It confirms the traitorous behavior of many American's against our fighting men in Vietnam.
Those who protested the war. Those who aided the enemy and assisted South Vietnam's fall to the Communist should take their shame to the grave. History has shown the anti-war movement and the disinformation about the war to the American people by the mainstream media to be wrong and traitorous.
Now if only someone would make a movie out of this book to help set the record straight.
Great book.......2006-01-11
This book really immerses you into the war. It is a great read. Not a lot of detail on his sniper missions but still great to read. The one negative review from a "ra doyle" is way off base. "ra doyle" also bashed the Hathcock book (another sniper in Vietnam). "ra doyle" says:
"Ward has four men killed on 22 May '69 including a company commander. The RVN Mem. Wall reveals that two Marines were killed that day. An enlisted Marine was killed by an explosive device and one of my former tank platoon commanders Roland Hamilton was killed ejecting from his OV -10 aircraft that was shot down."
The wall says that Roland Hamilton's casuality was July 22, NOT May 22. The wall lists 11 Marines killed on May 22, 1969. One was a Major (ROBERT WILLIAM ARNOLD).
"ra doyle" states "Once again "the Wall" reveals: 26th no Marine killed in Quang Nam province" How about KENNETH JAMES MCCLUSKEY?
His casuality date is Sep 26, 1969 in QUANG NAM, SOUTH VIETNAM.
"ra doyle" really doesn't like sniper/scouts apparently.
Great book.
A Great Novel from a Great Man.......2005-07-15
I picked this book up at a yard sale because I have a special place in my heart for snipers. I love them everything about them. And when I got to page five of this book, I couldn't understand why anyone would want to give it away. This book cronicles sniper Joseph T. Ward's life from when he was a jobless teenager until he became a great Vietnam war hero. Ward's letters to his mom are placed perfectly in the book and it's sad because he tells his mom the fake story and the reader the real factual story that no parent of a soldier wants to hear. This isn't the best sniper book I've read, that is probably War of the Rats. The book doesn't go into great detail about the actual shooting, but the environment is described perfectly and I felt like I was watching Ward's life in Vietnam over his shoulder, or through his eyes. This is definetly a great book that can be finished in one or two days because it will have you glued to the pages. Five out of five stars.
Extremely interesting and a smooth read.......2004-04-07
I'm not a great reader simply because nothing ever holds my interest very long, even if I'm into the subject. But this book kept me coming back. It read smoothly, and Ward's letters home were perfectly placed throughout the book. This book has the perfect blend of action and drama that keeps you coming back. While not very thick, there is a lot of substance. I will read it again, and I was basically a non-reader.
Edit after second read: Please read this book. JT Ward has fans with sites online, but also I have read others since then, and nothing compares. A cup of coffee and this book will keep you riveted even when current events are calling. I ask for readers simply out of great interest and admiration for the writing style and modest way this story was told. Everyone will admire this book.
Riveting Vietnam Narrative.......2003-11-24
DEAR MOM: A SNIPER'S VIETNAM is a truly valuable historical document that at the same time reads as a well-crafted narrative, rich in detail, written in a vivid and touching voice.
The book is a personal account of Mr. Ward's activities in the bush as a member of two-man sniper teams during his tour of duty as a USMC Scout Sniper attached to the 5th Marine Regiment at An Hoa. The story of chilling, up-close-and-personal encounters with the enemy is told through letters to the author's mother.
Mr. Ward talks about his respect for the Vietnamese people, his work with villagers, primarily Lee Oot, and at long last, brings the legendary Charles B. Mawhinney into the limelight, who was Mr. Ward's first parner in the bush. In addition, the author describes his time in the Danang Naval Hospital.
I found it fascinating to track how the author's experience as a sniper matures him from a young, somewhat naive recruit into a seasoned warrior. However, the most worthwhile aspect of the book, in my opinion is the life lessons the author learned from the experience. These are lessons, which people living in the turbulent, war-torn times today would do good to heed. In this sense, DEAR MOM transcends history and moves into the realm of timelessness and universal appeal. Mr. Ward was a hero on the battlefield, but it has taken an equal amount of courage for him to share his feelings on the printed page in such an unvarnished, gutsy way.
If you ever wanted to understand what a sniper's life and job is really all about, this is the consummate book to read on the subject.

Cattle Prod for Parents at War.......2005-05-28
I gave this book to my daughter in the second year of my divorce. Her eyes lit up as if she saw her face in the mirror
for the first time. Here was an experience she could relate to
and something that she finally might fix. Of the 185 points made I asked her to circle the ones that I wasn't doing right or was guilty of. We talked about those in detail. This book is a gift of hope to children of divorce everywhere, trapped in the roiling tide of their parents' creation.
Dear Mom and Dad, What kids of Divorce really want to say..........2001-10-22
This is one of the greatest tools to help your kids survive divorce. You can read the entire book in probably 20 minutes. When emotions are running wild and you're not thinking clearly, this book helps you see things through your childrens eyes. Helps you not say things or do things that you will regret later!
Buy two copies, one for each parent and agree that you will follow the 10 commandments! Good luck.
This book was a communication vehicle for all of us........2000-11-18
I will be entering a family of 3, father and two daughters. He has custody, the girls have visitation with their mother. The children are 6 and 9, and there are still a lot of issues they have, emotional and mental stress if you will. Confusion also. This book was given to the oldest daughter and we asked her to write down the points that she could relate to. It was like looking through a window into her soul. A lot of these issues dealt with feelings that she couldn't put into words herself and she is starting to see that she has the right to be a healthy child. And it helps that she doesn't have to say anything to either parent and hurt their feelings. The issues are taken with her to her counselor and discussed, and she is on a good path again. It has been amazing.
A book that both divorced parents and children should read!.......1999-05-12
I am a child of divorced parents, and I have two younger siblings that live with our mom. Even though I am an adult, I find myself in awkward situations when I visit my parents. I have often explained to my parents how these awkward situations affect me, but I stress how this is affecting my younger siblings. This book has clarified my ideas about the environment that my siblings and I should not have to accept. After reading this book, I immediately bought two extra copies and sent them to my mom and dad. Hopefully, since Gillian Rothchild is not only a professional, but also a parent, my parents will get the hint!
My ex and I actually agree-This book is a kids' life saver........1999-03-21
This is the first book I have read that has helped my ex and I learn to focus on our kids. We never realized, until we read this book, how destructive our behavior can be on our children. This book is the perfect divorced parenting book and has opened our eyes to the effects of both of our behaviors. We are trying our best every day to read and reread this book and make sure we improve our parenting skills and help our children lead different, but happier lives. This book is a wonderful eye-opener.

A Wonderful Concept.......2006-01-25
There are a lot of unsaid words and feelings bottled inside most of us. With my mother now in her eighties, I need to learn to let these out and to share them with her.
Discovering this book may help me break through the silence. I hope so.
Here's the author's words from the Letters From The Heart website: "I hope you take the women's insights in the book, Dear Mom, as a guide to explore your own relationship with your mother, and most important, with yourself.
May you make it a priority to tend to unresolved matters and discover the purpose of compassion, peace, and love throughout your life."
Wouldn't it be wonderful if all daughters could take this inspiration and achieve an improved relationship?
The book is truly wonderful........2005-05-26
Lisa did a brilliant job of creating the concept and then weaving the selected letters into a masterpiece of human emotion. I was able to look inside of so many incredibly expressive women's worlds to be captivated by their heartfelt feelings of gratitude, sorrow, shame, anger, guilt, abandonment, forgiveness, grief, love and in so many situations there was resolution, peace and wholeness. I found it refreshing to be able to leave my fast paced hectic day and slip away for some precious time to experience the journey of Dear Mom, I've Always Wanted You to Know as the Letters from the Heart truly touched my heart. As a daughter of a wonderful mother that is finer than a priceless gem and as a mother of two teenage daughters, I laughed, cried and wanted more when I reached the end. Life can take people in so many directions and the process of finding your home can sometimes be a letter away. I highly recommend this book!!!
A must read for all daughters.......2005-05-18
This book is an amazing look at daghters relationships with their moms. The letters go beyond all cultural barriers to connect the hearts of women everywhere. If you are a women...then you are a daughter. Read this book and be inspired by the heartfelt letters of women from around the globe.
Exploring The Compexities of Mother-Daughter Relationships.......2005-04-23
It goes without saying that the relationship between mothers and daughters is a complex one. Not only that, but it changes over time, so that neither mothers or daughters are ever quite the same from year to year, or even month to month. The result is an unpredictable relationship that is often difficult, but also rewarding. Lisa Delman's anthology began when she wrote her own letters to her mother. But it has moved from the personal to the many, and in doing so this book of letters touches on the universal. There are so many good letters in this volume, and they run the scale of emotions. I was particular impressed by the work of Judy Brand, who writes so movingly about making a momentous decision to save her mother's life following an aneurysm. I was also touched by Cynthia Jean Heidercker's story about being deaf, and how her mother labored to make life easier for her. These letters are all from the heart, some hurt and others made healthy again, by the primary relationships in their lives. The book offers life lessons for us all.
Heartfelt Thanks.......2005-04-18
It is with heartfelt thanks that I review "Dear Mom, I've Always Wanted You to Know: Daughters Share Letters from the Heart".
Lisa has entered a world that few have been brave enough to explore, the inner workings of the mother-daughter relationship. The full gamete of emotions is captured in this truly realistic and genuine book, offering glimpses into real mother-daughter relationships from women around the world. Her contributors have provided an opportunity for others to heal through their letters of forgiveness and thanks.
Lisa moves beyond her own pain through sharing the story of her relationship with her mother at a time most crucial in their journey together. Her contributors share a very personal letter written to their mothers with the audience and the result is a book that will make you laugh and cry.
This is a must read for women of all ages! Don't stop there, have your fathers, brothers and sons read it to gain some understanding of the bond that is shared between mother and daughter.
Thank you again Lisa!

A little break from reality.......2004-07-06
I read this book when I was younger. I found it to be quiet enjoyable. The characters were very curious in their patterns of thinking. The book, I think, is perfect for the age level the rating recomends. When I read this book I needed to escape. This book helped me do exactly that. Although I don't quiet remember everything in the book, for I read it so long ago, I do remeber that it was like the Harry Potter books. They engulf you in the plot. Closing your mind to anything and everything around you. I recomend this book to anyone who just needs a little break from the ordinary. "Dear Mom, get me out of here!", got me into trouble with my parents for not hearing when they called me. Just an enjoyable read for the reader. If you are having second thoughts of buying this book, you will have no regrets. I read plenty and love a good story as much as the next person. Therefore, I rate this book a five out of five. For it is so rare to find a good book.
