Great book for ASVAB.......2007-05-05
I owe my ASVAB score to this book, it raised my ASVAB score 20 points from the practice. The only difference between its computer sample tests and the actual ASVAB, is it has 5 possible answers while this software in the book only has 4. This is a must get for anyone who has to take the test.
Wrong answers/no errata.......2007-03-20
I purchased this book based solely on the reviews posted here. I immediately noticed some typos and more importantly, a couple of wrong answers in the chapter quizes. The wrong answers are what has really scared me - in one instance, the explanation for the answer they give contradicts the answer given. I stopped studying from the book so that I could obtain the errata sheet - I certainly didn't want to learn incorrect information/techniques. To my surprise, I didn't find any errata sheets on their website, so I e-mailed customer service to obtain one. I was given a one-page errata for the Practice Test only - these were errors I hadn't noticed, but they stopped at the Practice Test - they didn't proceed into the chapters of the book. When I asked Customer Service for a more complete errata, they responded that they didn't have one.
I find it difficult to study from a book in which I have no confidence.

This Book is Awesome!!!.......2006-01-24
I bought this book along witht he book "ASVAB Basics" and found this book to be a great supplement to the ASVAB Basics book. I recommend studying fromt the ASVAB Basics Book first then study from this book. I found the questions in this book to be harder then what is on the actula exam which made the actual ASVAB easier. I also found that a few of the questions in this book was on the actual exam itself (manily from the Word Knowledge and Arithmetic sections). I needed a GT score of 110 to get into Officer candidate School and ended up getting a 120! This book ROCKS!!

This Book is Awesome.......2006-01-24
I bought this book along with the book "30 days to the ASVAB" and it was a tremendous help. I have been trying to get into offcier candidate school (OCS) for sometime now. In oreder to get into OCS you need a GT score of 110. I studied from another book then took a practice test to see how well I would do and ended up getting an 84! I then decided to buy this book. I found that this book cover everything you need to know about the exam in great detail. The exams in this book are much harder then what you will actually find on the real exam but if you can master the questions in this book you will master the ASVAB. Don't waste your time on silly online programs offering "Secrets to Passing the ASVAB" just study this book (along with the other book) for about a month and you will do just find on the ASVAB. I actually found questions in this book to be on the real ASVAB! Tha was a suprising bonus to studying with this book. Needless to say, I ended up scoring a GT score of 120! And an AFQT score of 88! With these two scores I will be able to go to OCS and pick almost any military work field I would like to work in! Don't sleep on buying this book and preparing for the ASVAB. I recommend this book to anyone who has struggled with the ASVAB in the past or who just need a refresher on math and english...you will NOT regret it!
Excellent book for test preperation.......2001-10-27
This is an excellent book for learning the specifics required to pass and do well on the ASVAB. If you can pass or excel on the practice tests in this book, you will do even better on the real test.

Customer Reviews:
This book will help you a lot! But don't pay full price if you can avoid it!.......2007-08-07
I read the reviews of just about every ASVAb Prep book out there. I bought the "Barron's book, which was one of -if not THE- most expensive book available. So the question is "Did it help?" Without any doubt, yes it did. Is it worth the MSRP of $29.99? No. Maybe $15.00, at best.
Having taken a the ASVAB in 1993, I was unsure what to expect. I had five days from the time I decided to take the ASVAB to prepare for it. I shopped around online and at retail locations. I bought the Barron's book, and was broken hearted when I bombed the first practice test in the booklet. The second and third tests weren't much easier, but having reviewed my previously missed questions and getting back up to speed in math and general science, I did fairly well on the fourth and final practice test.
I took the ASVAB on August 6, 2007 and was pleased to score extremely high across the board. The test itself was a bit easier than the Barron's book, which contains not a few errors, both factual and printing/editing.
The CD-ROM featured the same hard-copy practice tests, it's not much help beyond the fact that my ASVAB was administered on a computer. I had no problems with any virus that was rumored to be on the CD.
So how did I do?
When I first took the test in 1993 I was still in high school, and my GT(General Techical) score (which is based generally on your VE and AR scores and is the standard baseline for the Army) was 123 , but it was a much different test. After serving four years in the military and then getting a Bachelors degree, the Barron's book helped me get a GT score of 142 and none of my line scores were lower than 132. I did not think the GT score went above 140, I guess I was wrong or things have changed. I attribute much of my success on the ASVAB to the practice tests in the Barron's book and can say that some of the questions will appear almost verbatim in the actual exam depending on what version you take.
One thing I that was on the ASVAB and not in the book is the pH scale, know your acids and bases, it's very easy, but know it.
A decent book, perhaps one of the better ones on the market, shop around and take the test seriously.
OH,! AND REVIEW EVERY BOOK YOU READ!
A Word of Warning..........2007-07-27
I have gone through nearly all of this book, and though it did serve as a good refresher course for many high school subjects that I had forgotten, this book frustrated me. I found so many errors that I ended up putting it aside all together. With so much on my plate right now, it takes a lot for me to find time to study to prepare for the ASVAB. I really do not have time to re-check the accuracy of every solution in this book. Overall, I am disappointed in this purchase, and will go elsewhere for a new ASVAB study guide.
Preparing for a not difficult but important test.......2006-08-04
When you go into the military you take a battery of tests. They don't make a big deal of these tests, just one more thing in an endless line of things like getting uniforms and shots. These tests are not even very difficult.
BUT these tests are very important. They determine where the military is going to put you. With good scores you get into things like electronic maintenance or computer programming that will pay very good dividends when you get out. With bad scores you are lugging a machine gun around Iraq -- not very useful training for when you get out.
This test, like a lot of others given to kids at about that time is really an intelligence test. Well, let's say that the types of questions that you see on the tests are very similar to intelligence test questions. While you can't really improve your intelligence, you can certainly improve your test taking ability. The test questions here won't be the exact questions you'll see on the ASVAB, but they'll be similar in style, difficulty, and overall content. Knowing what to expect will increase your scores, improve your assignments to schools and generally improve your life.
The CD included with the book gives a lot of additional questions that will likewise improve your scores. There are stories of a virus on the CD, but it seems to be a problem with Norton Anti-Virus rather than with the disk itself.
Still Has A Virus After Knowing About It For 3 Years.......2006-01-12
I ordered the Barrons How to Prepare for the ASVAB with CD Rom for a Christmas present. The main reason I selected it was because of the CD, and I felt my son would probably be more willing to study something on the computer. When I tried to load the program, found there was a serious virus on the CD. I sent emails to the Customer Service department reporting the problem, and to ask for a new CD, but they have never responded. Now after reading other reviews I see this problem has been around on the CD since 2003 over 3 years. I find this inexcusable on Barrons part not to have resolved the issue in this time frame. I feel this product should be immediately be pulled from the market. I'm surprised that Amazon seeing these reviews about the virus hasn't allready done so. Don't waste your money on this product, especially if your buying it because of the corrupted CD ROM program.
Tests on the CD-ROM are practical and effective........2004-05-12
The tests on the CD-ROM are practical and effective. Timing on questions and metrics displayed are useful to measure progress in learning. There is no other product on the market that can give you extensive training on the ASVAB tests like this CD.
I noticed that some users had issues with installing the product, such as Norton Antivirus terminating the installation due to the presence of a virus W95.CIH.Corrupt. After investigating I found that this is a problem with the Norton Antivirus package. Norton Antivirus 2004 or earlier versions, with current virus definitions via live update (virus definitions after August, 2003), is buggy and wrongly detects that an installation file is infected! Similar problems may exist with McAfee as well.
A patch is available online that will fix this problem. (...)
Hope this helps. Good luck with the ASVAB!

This is the BEST book for ASVAB test prep out there!.......2006-05-14
I looked at all the books available, and this has the most up-to-date information on both study review material and the test itself. It's better written, too, and easier to understand.
The ASVAB has been updated and changed--many other books are still trying to prepare readers for a previous version of the test with outdated information. This 8th edition is great!!!
Book Description
ASVAB is the test that 1 million high school students and 200,000 military recuits must pass to get into the military. This system helps you overcome test anxity, manage your study time, and learn when to guess.

AWFUL!..........2001-06-16
This book is WORTHLESS! Not only is it written in a nauseatingly bad style but the book doesn't tell you anything you can't find by doing a little Internet research. That's what I was looking for and this book failed to provide it. Save your money and search the web instead.
A Great Way To Prepare For The ASVAB........2001-06-08
It is nice to have a book that not only gives you an advantage on the written test, but gives you one on the computerized test also. Not all MEPS give the test in written form anymore and it is nice to be able to practice on the test in computer form so it is not a surprise to you when you get there. The CD Rom was simple to install and easy to use. The only negative response about this book/CD that I can think of is that on the CD Rom, it repeats the same questions over and over again, just in a different order. A greater diversity in questions would be much more beneficial when striving for that high composite ASVAB score. After all, the higher the composite score, the better chance of getting what you want out of the military.
