Book Description
Aimed at seasoned actors as well as vocal talents who lack show-biz experience, this career manual offers the most complete guide to a lucrative field.
Voices are increasingly in demand for commercials, cartoon characters, announcements, and other voice-over spots. This outstanding handbook explains how to launch a career and find work. Along with sample commercials and script copy, the author gives advice on vocal exercises, on self-promotion, and on business matters, and this expanded edition includes new tips on making a demo CD; vocal modulation and breath techniques; advanced copy-reading techniques; and a section on how copywriters see the job of the voice artists they write for.

A Must-read.......2007-10-04
I'm at the beginning of my career in voice-over and I've read a good handful of books on the topic and taken tons of classes...but rarely has anyone "broken down" the essentials of technique quite as clearly and succinctly as Elaine Clark does in this book. For the first time, I felt like I had some practical tools I could refer to when approaching copy, which not only gave me a promising ground to start from, but also helped build my confidence and desire to "stick-to-it." Rather than give you hollow, abstract phrases about the need to connect emotionally to the copy, she shows you "how" to make it "yours." Obviously she's a great teacher with a lot of experience, as she leaves no stone unturned in this book with regards to what to expect in every aspect of this career and how to be best prepared so that you can succeed.
My Favorite Book on Voiceover.......2007-08-16
Elaine Clark is my guru. I have read this book a number of times since purchasing it in 2001, and I return to a number of specific passages when I need a refresher. Having worked steadily in this business for 20+ years, and having purchased many books on voice acting, I 've found "There's Money Where Your Mouth Is" to be my absolute favorite. The reader is taken from the basics to the multitude of details involved in running your own successful voice-over business.
Thanks to Elaine Clark, I have grown professionally as a voice actor, and enhanced my voice acting and copy interpretation skills.
get this book.......2006-04-21
If you are at all interested in VO, get this book. I read it cover to cover a year ago, and I've been cherry picking those areas that I've needed to focus on ever since. Now that I've marked up my copy at least three times and pages are starting to break loose of their binding, I'm ready to get an agent and start working. If your an actor or improvisor this book will help all areas of your artistic endeavors. The nuances & subtleties of speech are examined in great detail. The bottom line throughout this book is how to stop "acting" and be real. The market is hungry for every day real people. There's a pot of gold at the end of this rainbow, pick it up.
Very helpful.......2005-10-24
This book is very helpful for those new to the industry. It contains information about putting your demo together, about getting an agent, and has sample copy to practice with, and tips for exercising your voice. I definitely reccomend this for anyone who is interested in trying this line of work for the first time.
Great book........2005-09-28
This book can be helpful for actors starting out. I have found that the actors I work with in my private practice need exercises to get them prepared for the biz.

A Mysterious Mix of Fantasy & Reality.......2007-07-31
It's an interesting concept to see that you may not be sure if it's real or a nightmare?
I've Wondered Since Age Nine..........2007-06-18
My first brush with this book came when I was in kindergarten, the year my little brother would be born. The children's room had this book displayed, open, on a podium that was just short enough for me to see over. Instantly, I wanted to take the book out.
I took it out a few more times over the next year or so, and was always entralled by both the story and the illustrations. The story itself gave me a bit of a thrill when I imagined having to defend *my* baby brother for Goblins.
Eventually I forgot about it...until I was nine and Labyrinth came out. As you probably know, in that movie a girl's brother is stolen by a king and taken to a Goblin city, where she has to fight in order to get him back.
Makes you wonder if this book inspired the movie, doesn't it? I know I've always wondered!
gorgeous.......2007-03-31
i have loved this book ever since i was a small child in the 70s. my mother was always buying books for us with odd stories and beautiful illustrations. to this day, it is one of my favorites.
when i was a child, i loved the intricacy of the illustrations and could spend hours looking into the details in the pictures. i loved the story, as well. it is all at once a little creepy and a gorgeous fairy tale.
the things about fairy tales, though, including the ones that disney has sanitized, is that they are all creepy. to those people who are saying to keep this book away from small children, etc ... i say it is no more disturbing than "hansel and gretel" or any other tale by the brothers grimm. and it is not any more disturbing than any other sendak book. from "where the wild things are" to "pierre" to "in the night kitchen". they are fantasy and fable and fairy tale all together.
children's imaginations are supposed to run wild. that's how they learn and grow.
and to the people who are made uncomfortable my sendak's use of nudity in a children's book ... i say get your head out of the sand. it is neither graphic nor gratuitous. by just having it here as part of the story and not a big deal, you take away it's taboo status. it makes it less interesting if it's something that's normal than if it's something that's hidden. there's nothing wrong with a little bare bum!
great story & artwork.......2007-03-17
This is a great children's story about goblins. If you liked the concept of the Labyrinth, you'll enjoy this story. Children will like the illustrations as well as the story.
Creepy weird... it's not Wild Things.......2006-12-28
Sendak is an aquired taste. This one and Higglety Pigglety Pop are his most "stout" of books, IMHO. Sendak's books are genius, but not for every kid or every adult (heck, we have to enjoy them, too).
I will admit, I think my 4 year old daughter has more patience for this book than I do. She is a new big sister to twins. She get's this book, maybe because she is into fantasy play in pre-school and doesn't have to get up and go to work every morning.
Book Description
Hang in there--it's almost over!
Much of the nation has been counting the days since the first inauguration of the president who said, "I'm the commander--see, I don't need to explain--I do not need to explain why I say things. That's the interesting thing about being president."
Yes, there is hope--and now you can count down the days while enjoying:
* the best of Bush bloopers and blunders
* the indictments, scandals, embarrassments and audacity of the president's advisors, admirers (think Harriet), cronies, appointees (see "cronies") and strange bedfellows
Customer Reviews:
Hilarious, But..........2007-06-09
The calendar seems to be off by one day. Well, let me re-phrase that - SOMEBOY'S calendar is off by a day.
For instance, this is Saturday, June 9, 2007. According to my copy of the George W. Bush Out of Office Countdown, we have to endure 591 days until we can, hopefully, get our country back. Yet, according to other sources - like backwardsbush.com - there are 590 days left. I can't find any explanations for the discrepency, and I'm too busy to do the math myself.
I suppose in the end it doesn't matter. The important point is, the end really is within spitting distance. Maybe our next leadership can bring democracy (back) to the American people. Heck maybe some day we can even hold our heads up again. Until then, having this calendar helps.
When you are feeling down.......2007-01-09
As a Christmas gift, this book was a hit. Her reaction, "I leafed through it and started to laugh so hard that my sides are hurting now. This is exactly the kind of pick-me-up that I needed. Anyway, the Bush book is still the best anti-depressant around. Any time I need to laugh, I pick it up."
Amazon again on the front page right before Christmas no less.......2006-12-21
I question this site now as a safe place to shop. Please use common since and remove these items from your front page. You are doing your site a disservice
by littering your store with wartime propaganda. For one thing the changes happening in war are changing by the second. Now it is becoming more evident that Putin is and most likely always has been our enemy. Americans use some brains. The War in Iraq isn't the war. The war is everywhere and we are in it. Face it, in the near future our troops will be in other countries or we die here. Our educational system isn't doing a damn thing for our kids, thus businesses out source work. If we don't get smart extremely quick we are done. Wasting your life reading this book illustrates the seemingly inevitable probability that America may be doomed just like Iran's President said. This book is part of this whole equation to the demise of America. So Americans speak out and Pray to what ever you want to that when Bush is gone our new government is prepared to fight a possible new Cold war, Korea, Iran, Syria. They are not going away when Bush is gone. Amazon do your customers right by removing this garbage from your front page. You will lose customers believe me.
Bushie, You're Doing a Heck of a Job.......2006-11-27
What do you do when a pathetic excuse for a human being is the most powerful person on the planet? Laugh.
At least that's the goal of the authors of "George W. Bush Out of Office Countdown Handbook," and is one they accomplish well. Needless to say, the Bush administration gives them plenty of material: there are the bloopers and blunders (too many to count), the scandals, the indictments and the sheer stupidity of this President: a man who can't pronounce 'nuclear'; doesn't give a damn about finding Osama bin Laden; lied to the country about Iraq having WMD and being a threat to the US; assigned a man with no experience in emergencies to head FEMA, and when that man proved to be absolutely incompetent, Bush congratulated him on "doing a heck of a job"...
The harm caused by the commander in chief is well-known, and while it's enough to make most patriotic Americans weep, this book provides a way to turn such troubles into laughter.
That's all fine and well, but I have a different proposal to save America from this blithering idiot: Impeach.
Mr. Croak, gimme a break.......2006-11-26
To Mr. Croak (reviewer) above: "The dramatic rise of terrorism throughout the world is barely even mentioned in this simplistic literary property."
What planet are you on? There was no "dramatic rise of terrorism" UNTIL Junior was President. THAT'S THE POINT. You need to get out of the country more, or read papers other than those in the US to understand the global implications of Bush's "think I'll do that this week--sounds good-yeah" policies.
And, please, dont insult my intelligence by mentioning 911; there are far too many open questions about that day that have not been answered to any discerning person's satisfaction. Instead, we've been forced to live with its consequences because The Decider has decided what's good for us as a result without our participation, and denigrates anyone who questions his decisions, as if he weren't the hired hand that he is.

Fun For Kids.......2005-10-16
This tape is well orchestrated and narrated. My first grade class loves to read the book and listen at the same time. I recommend it!
very pleased.......2005-07-25
I am so happy I bought this book on tape. My daughter is very entertained with it. We commute together every day. She really enjoys the story about the little girl with the sign on her door. It is actually pretty funny. I would recommend it to anyone!!!
"Please don't go, we'll eat you up, we love you so!".......2003-01-29
I personally never liked Sendak's WTWTA. Or In the Night Kitchen. Or Chicken Soup with Rice. Or anything ever illustrated or written by him. So, I'm not a fan. Got it?
But WOW, was I ever wrong. I just didn't get it before, but listening to Tammy Grimes narrate and with the addition of Herr Mozart, it's like being transported into what must have been a fascinating mind who could write so well for children.
Buy this CD for your 4 year old + child with imagination to spare and he'll be begging for it. It's become a TREAT 'round these parts.
Even as adults, it's still amazing to me and my siblings.......2002-07-23
My siblings and I listened to this wonderful cassette as children and to this day treasure it. We have passed it's wonders onto our own young relatives and soon to our own children. It will stay with you forever for the words of Maurice Sendak make your imagination take flight and the voice of Tammy Grimes is so captivating; the best I have ever heard these fabulous stories read! The addition of the music of Mozart truly inspires the mind of children and adults alike.
A Wonderful Reading by Tammy Grimes.......2000-03-03
The Sendak stories read by Tammy Grimes capture the spirit and fun of the text and pictures without "talking down" to children. My kids have loved it from age 18 months to 7 (and counting). A wonderful interpretation of wonderful stories.
Customer Reviews:
Pat Tracy, Warrior.......2007-09-22
First Sergeant Pat Tracy wrote this book in 2004, but it doesn't lessen the battles being fought in Iraq one bit. He is a warrior and this, for now, is the only war he has to fight. This is a personal account, almost day to day, of how he copes with the real world, the world of guns, bullets, and IEDs with deadly effect. Pat is earthy, a Marine with Marine language. If you hate war, this is not your book unless you would like to know more about how the individual soldier or Marine feels about life on the edge of extinction. Battles with murderers, others call them insurgents, is no game to be played; these people are clearly trying to stop solutions to events which will improve the lives of millions of Iraqi people. However, these murderers would live in the middle-ages except for heros and heroines about which Pat Tracy writes. Earthy language and violence, so beware.
From a limited Point of View.......2007-08-04
This is an enjoyable, easy to read book. It is a journal of GySgt Tracy's time in Iraq, and it is definitely from a Gunny's point of view. It is real, and the reader should read it not for a view of the "war in Iraq" but for a view of one somewhat arrogant (but possibly justified) Gunny. He is judgemental of his senior officers, but doesn't realize his possible own limitations and ignorance. I state this just as a caveat to the book; it's full of a Gy's limited and very emotional view -- good because it shows how someone actually fighting the war thinks about the war, without thinking too much about it. It may, however, give a reader unfamiliar with the military the impression that most Marines are idiots. Entertaining, but definitely from a Gy who wasn't read-in to the bigger picture. It is more "enteraining" and "interesting" than educational or informative.
The way it is.......2007-06-27
If I wanted to know how the Marines really operated in Iraq, I would read this book. If you read the book and then read recent newspaper stories on the slow respoinse of the Marines getting lasers to stop road block runners, you will know why it is so important to have them. The book lays the grounwork for the need for lasers. Gunny cares for his troops. I appreciate his candor. He is a solid family man and yet a real warrior. I would highly recommend this book.
transaction approval.......2007-01-12
This transaction was super from begining to end. the book was number one... HARD to find...but was on Amazon... the seller was 100% from the discription to the packageing and the transport of the book. SUPER TRANSACTION!!!
Diary from Iraq.......2006-11-16
Like combat patrols in Iraq, 'Street Fight' shoots for effect with no concern about hurt feelings or diplomatic fallout, and it's authenticity makes it beautifully vulgar. Somewhere in this book I forgot I was reading a diary and felt like I was on patrol with Fox Company in Ramadi. Everyone who cares about America, Iraq, or the Marine Corps would benefit from sharing the Gunny's perspective, and we're lucky he wrote it down.
Product Description
"Life in the Spirit world" came into being initially as the result of a pact between Professor Ian Currie and author Bill Williams whereby they agreed that whoever passed over first would attempt to communicate from spirit. The book developed further through the collaboration of three minds, each playing a unique role and culminating in the production of this book. First there is the Communicator, the spirit of the late Professor Ian Currie communicating from the realm of Spirit. Second, there is the Facilitator, Medium Muriel Williams who received and wrote down the information given by the Professor and lastly the Coordinator Bill Williams who formulated the pertinent questions to be answered by Professor Currie during the communication sessions and also contributed relevant documented evidence and paranormal research information appertaining to the subject.
As the title suggests the subject matter communicated during the sessions is about the Professor's views and perspective of life in spirit. These views are expressed in a definitive, scholarly manner with clarity, purpose and detail delivered in his own engaging personal style.
This is a book with a purpose and a message. In his epilogue Bill Williams gives the reader the opportunity to be both judge and jury weighing up the documented evidence of the spirit world, and bringing his own knowledge and experience garnered over many years of research into the paranormal to make a credible case through volume of evidence. The book provides readers with a wealth of compelling evidence pointing to the survival of the soul after physical death, showing that the mind does not die but continues to grow and evolve in the spirit world.
Book Description
The USA is the world¹s newest, greatest, and only empire. Some would say it is the world¹s most insular state as well as the most powerful, never troubling to correct its ignorance of the people and places beyond its borders. Is it a slander? In this issue of Granta, American writers describe their encounters abroad and how they were affected by them. In reportage and fiction, outsiders to America come upon the strangeness of the place itself. Included are James Buchan in America's Hometown, Edmund White meeting his first European, Paul Theroux as a sexual prisoner in Africa, Nell Freudenberger making a mistake in Laos, Luc Sante getting that old-time religion, and James Kelman in trouble with the natives. There are also recollections and forecasts from Eric Schlosser, A. M. Homes, Chris Hedges, Paula Fox, Gary Shteyngart, Paul Fussell, Adam Hochschild, J. Robert Lennon, Studs Terkel, Jacki Lyden, Chalmers Johnson and many more. Surprising new maps of America by Martin Rowson, a photographic essay by Anthony Suau, and new stories by Judith Hermann and Julian Barnes are also featured.

Great Edition of a Great Magazine!.......2004-03-27
There are some really great stories in this edition. Some are memories of being American in other parts of the world at significant times in history, others recount American lifestyles right here. My favorite story is about a Thai worker at an island resort for farangs (foreigners) and his devotion to his pet pig named Clint Eastwood.
Book Description
A witty, illustrated guide to the mysteries of driving in Britain from a North American point of view. The book helps tourists become "roundabout ready" and introduces equally important, but less well-known, aspects of British traffic protocol. Often tongue-in-cheek, but focussed and factual.
Customer Reviews:
Driving in Britain.......2007-09-22
It was a good book to read,But it didn't tell me much that I already now about driving in Britain.I like to now what on the test, to study for in Britian.
Driving In Britain By Robert Lockhart.......2007-05-23
Having driven in Britain for many years in the 1970's, I really appreciated this book. It's hilarious but gives the reader the information needed to be able to safely drive the roads and motorways. I had forgotten how to handle roundabouts but this book not only explained them, it drew easy to understand pictures. It all came back to me by the time I had finished the review. I think it's good for novices as well as experienced drivers planning a trip to Britian.

Book Description
Two young brothers born in Germany were deported with their family to France and held in a detention camp. Their parents were transferred to Rivesaltes. Two years later they were sent to Drancy and from there they were deported to their final destination - Auschwitz. Meanwhile the two brothers were rescued from the detention camp by the OSE (a Jewish organization) and the Quakers. They were shuffled between orphanages in France and Switzerland. Eventually they were separated. After the war Fred, the older brother, made his way to the United States, where he became a rocket scientist. His work brought him in contact with Werner von Braun. The younger brother, Menachem, came to Israel, where he took part in Israel's wars. He raised a family and devoted himself to a career in education.
For many years there was almost no contact between the brothers, but recently they felt a need to talk about their experiences, especially with their grandchildren. They renewed their connection with each other and together they wrote the gripping story of their childhood.
This is one of the most touching memoirs to come to light in recent years. The unusual narrative style, the conversations between the brothers as they attempt to bridge the missing years, their appeal to their grandchildren and in fact to all our grandchildren, cannot fail to move the reader.
